Msi "m-7185" PSU shuts down after startup

My hiper Type-r 580w PSU shuts down between 3 and 15 seconds after startup. The minifan and LED remain powered.

I am presuming this is an overload trip.

If I disconnect the 2 pin cable from the PSU to the MSI motherboard the PSU does not shut down. (The 2 pin cable connects to the PSU end of the motherboard - away from the video card).

With this cable disconnected the PSU runs OK, with no shutdown. I have no video but I can hear the HD doing it's normal 'hard work' for 30 seconds at start up.

It would appear that it is not connecting to the router, as it is not visioble from another computer.

Any suggestions welcome.

It seems that your unit has some sort of PSU fault, or a problem that is shutting down the Power Supply Unit, PSU. This happens so that no further damage, and possible fire will occur.
You need to take the unit to a reputable service centre/man and ask for a firm "Quote" for the work to be done. It is that sound that gives it away, this is a typical switchmode Power Supply problem.

It seems that your unit has some sort of PSU fault, or a problem that is shutting down the Power Supply Unit, PSU. Then after it has reset, it tries to startup again, over and over, it would do this until if fails completely. This happens so that no further damage, and possible fire will occur.

Pull the battery, short the BIOS shorting pins (depends on your model where that is) for a minute or so. Make sure you have the correct memory (usually the problem) and reinsert battery and restart.

The power supply has to have a load. There is a sense line on the ps/mb. You can purchase a ps tester from Internet vendors that will plug onto the ps connector and show if it is working on not.
