The ice maker is working alone, and makes a noise.

The ice maker in my side by side refrigerator is working alone, and makes a noise that is heard in the entire house. It is occurring every half an hour.

Thank you very much for your attention. The noise was not coming from the ice maker, it was from the dispenser, the place from where the ice comes out on the door. The lid was activated automatically in such a way that it was making that horrible noise. The water dispenser was activated and flooded the house. What I did was to press the lock key to interrupt the water going to the ice maker and to the front door. Now, the new problem is that the dispenser door control is not working, all lights are off.

Does it have a lever that you can lift up and turn it off since you are not using it to make ice.this will eliminate the noise which is trying to add water but you don't have the water line hooked up to it or your water solonoid is not letting water feed yhe ice maker tray. good luck, hope this works.

I get a loud grinding noise from my ice maker. What can make that noise?

Hi,

Thank you for your information you provided, could the noise be described as a clicking or ticking noise? The reason I ask is I have heard for this to be a motor driven harvest and the heating within the ice maker is not engaging to release the ice, so the unit continues to push the ice out causing the gear to jump a tooth. If this is the case the only fix is replacing the ice maker to fix the issue. Other possible cause of grinding is the water in not entering the ice maker (hollow ice cubes) so the water is accumulating around the fan motor and freezing up. As the fan turns on the grinding is the fan motor cutting away at the ice. Gain access to the fan motor and check for ice around the fan, if its there remove that ice. The cause is that the water is not getting into the ice maker and causing this issue. Good Luck, I hope this helps.

My Hotpoint makes a high pitched humming noise all the time.

Hi,

This noise is most likely coming from the evaporator fan motor that is located behind the panel just below the ice maker. There is an air duct that the fan blows through to cool the ice maker that is why the sound is heard in the ice maker area more.

The noise does not hurt anything but the motor can be replaced if it gets too annoying, it is a fairly common complaint. The part number for the motor is WR60X10185 and runs about $60.00. It is a bit challenging to get to but can be done with a bit of patience by removing everything in the freezer and taking the back panel off the inside of the freezer.

Rumbling noise

you will find its very possiblely internal gas boiling off in the system.unfortunately you will have to get used to it because if gas is removed to minimise noise, your cooling will become poor. if you put more in, it will get louder and start icing up on the compressor pipe at the back.an exact amount is dialed in on manufacture. this noise ive heard many times.
