Question about Samsung HCN4226W 42" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Ghost / Overlapping Image

My TV has developed a ghost image or two overlapping images about 2 inches apart on the screen.  It almost appears as if there are two images projected on the screen which are supposed to be aligned together, but are off.  When I turn on the TV, for the first few minutes, the TV cycles between good picture quality to the overlapping images for a few times and then decides to settle on the bad (overlapping) image.

Sounds like you have image retention better known as burn in. If this is the case then you need a new light engine. Which means if you can't live the bad screen buy a new tv. Light engine cost a lot of money to replace.

You dont have to remove the aluminum heat sink. The ICs are attached with screws and then just unsolder the ICs from the circuit board and then replace the new ics into the pin hole locations after applying heat sink compound onto the back then screww the new ICs to the heat sinks then solder the pins. Very easy repair.

Double images with red halo outlines

Sounds like your describing convergence ICs. They cost about 10.00 each and you will need to replace both of them. And possibly the resistors that power them total cost under 30 dollars if you do he soldering yourself. Hope this helps.

Red-striped ghost images.

when you leave your TV (no matter what kind) and you leave it for long periods of time on a static image or something.. the image tends to burn in to the screen... so changing the glass would be a way to fix it.... the problem is that that kind of repairmen is more expensive and difficult than buying a new set...
