Question about Acer Computers & Internet
I've an Acer 5520-5334 laptop Windows Vista Home Premium, have had it for 2 years, and suddenly it decided to shutdown randomly while I was in the midst of something. I thought nothing of it and turned it on again only for the same problem to occur thirty minutes after starting it again. After the second time, I gave up and decided to let the laptop take a break and the next day, it would turn on, the green light saying it was on...sounded just fine then I no sooner put in my password to login and get into the computer to see my desktop, it shut down again like the day before but much sooner.
I attempted to turn it on several times after that but the green light would go on and off, the computer going on and off and even pressing the power button to try and stop it didn't work. I had once managed to get in and try system restore but that didn't work. I could not do Reboot because my computer was never given a reboot disk to begin with the day we got it nor a Windows Vista Home Premium disk. I tried to see if it were the AC Adapter or the battery but the problem persisted whether I had the AC Adapter or the battery in it (battery being fully charged). I also found out I am able to get into my computer, if for a very short amount of time, if I ran the battery dry, recharged it but even System restore and Computer repair didn't work. When I ran system restore the computer looked like it would be fine and I shut it down to attend to an issue with my sister only to come back and find the problem acting up again when I thought it to have been resolved from system restore.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read this.
Did you ever happen to clean its vents or airways, or have it serviced. Could be accumulated dirt in your system giving your thermal problem. Its thermal protection is working.
Just for an input, hope this helps you already.
Leave comment if this doesn't help and I will give other possible theory.

It sounds to me like the machine could be overheating causing the machine to shut down unexpectedly.
Purchase a can of compressed air and give short blasts through the air vents and the CPU fan (located under the laptop), keep on doing this until you have cleared all the dust or any other foreign objects that could have clogged the air vents, as soon as you are happy that all the dust is cleared restart the laptop and it should now stay on for a lot longer, if it does not please feel free to post back.
Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
