Craftsman riding mower LT3000 blades won't engage/turn

I have a Craftsman Riding Mower LT3000 model #917276827 and the stinkin' thing won't mow! It worked fine last year when I put it away. All the pulleys underneath turn by hand. The belts look fine. When I use the lever to engage the blades, it will go into position, but it's a major effort to get it there, like something's stuck? I don't have the manual, so I can't see if it has troubleshooting info and I'm hoping someone can help me out before I have to go buy a herd of goats to get the lawn back down to a height where I don't lose my three-year-old...I'm not the most mechanically savvy girl in the world, but I know my way around a screwdriver & crescent wrench. I know I could fix it if I just had a clue what was wrong!

Well, we wouldn't want to lose your little girl, but goats can be very lovable.

The problem could be it just needs lubricating. I'd first spray WD-40 on every part of that mecanism which moves, top to bottom, even inside the button on top and underneath the deck.

If that doesn't work, get back to me, please.

Ours is the other way around, the mower wont shut off untill the thing is shut off completely. plus have you ever had the problem with the mower scalping one side and the other side looks great,,yaa its not very nice. when you have to take the deck off, the spring in there that holds the lever might need changed, ours is too tight, so hence it wont shut off, they are very testy lil buggers huh! make sure your underneath isnt cracked too I was mowing with the darn thing and hit a rock(blonde moment) and the whole pully system came off! check deck before you mow!

What size is for a craftsman LT3000 blade belt 42 in deck?

June, google search your make, model #, deck belt.
LT3000 is not a model # , The model and serial number of a Craftsman riding mower is located on the frame under the seat, or on the underside of the seat.

How do I determine why the blades will not engage on my mower

With the mower turned off and the deck at its lowest setting, check the top of the deck for any debris like rocks or sticks. Then watch the top of the deck while you move the engage lever. If nothing is moving, you either need to adjust the cable, reattach the cable, or install a new cable. If you see the lever with the pulley on it moving, when the engage lever is locked on, check the tightness of the belt. If it's loose, that is your problem and it could be a stretched belt.

I have a 46", 21 HP Craftsman riding mower. The

perhaps it is no oil or too much oil. Check oil level!
If it was too much it would be blowing oil or blue smoke out the exhaust.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Prob with PTO on craftsman mower 917.273372

There is a idler pivot plate on the mower that must be cleaned and lubricated regularly, from the left side of the mower deck if you look in the middle of the mower deck while someone engages the mower(with the engine off) you will see the pulley try and move, there is a 3/8 bolt that comes up through a bushing that this pivots on, soak that area with wd-40 and see if that improves the movement. Be sure not to get any wd-40 on the belt or pulleys. Always try and keep that area clean and lubed.

Starting Craftsman model 917.270430 riding mower.

There's a safety shut-off switch below the seat, so when you're seated the switch is engaged. If you were to fall off the mower, the engine and Blades stop (safety feature).
Check the switch to see if it's operational.
Beyond that, mower may need a tune up or servicing, if it is not starting.
