Question about Computers & Internet

It suddenly will not boot up. WHen we turn it on, it shows the Asus load screen, and then goes to a "Windows Error Recovery" screen, asking us to start in a number of "safe modes"

Does it boot OK in the safe mode? If it does that means that you have a problem most likely with a driver. It then is a matter of isolating the bad item which takes some time.

Try all, if this not go into its expected boot up. Your options are repair, restore to factory, reinstalled depends on the features of recovery of your unit.

Back up your important files, drivers if needed, installation code if needed first before performing said solution

How to format Toshiba Satellite L655- S5098

Try running the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Problem with my ASUS W3J also with BIOS.

Sounds like your hard drive is toast. Replace your hard drive and try again. If it continues, it may be time to replace your laptop.

Also check your recovery disks for heavy or concentrate scratches.
