Question about Amana NAV2335A Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Kicks out? My top load Amana had a bad belt. I replaced it with automotive type that was a little bit shorter. Since doing so two things have occured. The belt squeals when it goes into spin. Water is thrown out of the top of the tub, and now after using it to run a few cycles (to catch up), it seems to be kicking out from overheating. After a while it starts back up and runs until it tries to spin. Was the original size belt meant to slip in the spin cycle causing the water pump to remove more water prior to spinning? and would this relieve some of the overload on the motor at the start of the spin cycle?

Re: Kicks out?

The smaller belt is causing the tub to spin too quickly. the shorter belt is causing the motor to overheat and causing the thermal overload protector to shut dowqn the motor. when the motor cools it starts up again. replace the belt with te correct size and that will solve your problems

How to replace drive belt

Nothing could be simpler. No tools needed. Tip the washer on it's back and ease the belt back on there. c5b917f.jpg
Before you mount another belt on there you need to check the pump for stiffness. On these washers the pump sometimes locks up and burns a belt up.

Amana LW8303L2 will not spine

Belt replacement on these is a slightly intimidating job to the uninitiated, but possible.

Lots of pictures and help at these sites.

Main thing is use ONLY the factory-authorised replacement belt on these. It is designed to have the right amount of slip/grip to enable your washer to work properly. This is CRITICAL on Amanas.

Install belt on Amana top load washing machine

Use the correct sized belt!!

Loosen the Motor mounting Bolts. ( Do not take it off ) Now the motor assembly can be moved towards the opposite large pulley.

Replace the belt in this position and slide the motor to it's original position. You adjust it in such away so that, the belt is not too tight or loose!

Tighten the belt on an Amana washer?

The belt should already be pretty tight after wrapping around the barrel and the motor pulley. The belt may be worn and should be inspected and probably replaced.
To prevent similar problems in the future I suggest you be aware of how big of a load you put in the washer.

that belt replacement requires some effort but you can do it with a little patience. then you will have your reward plus your washer will be fixed. you'll need a torx head screw driver ( if u don't have one they sell them at the hardware store) and a 1/2 inch socket. it requires removing motor pump assembly from washer and then removing pump from motor. it will take you a while. it's not as hard as it looks. good luck.
