My Canon Pixma mp500 won't print black for text. There is no error message. I have run through cleaning cycles, updated the driver, changed the cartridge with no results. Other colors all print fine. ...

Hi there maximum time we found it is a the head problem. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. For resolve the problem please follow these.
Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. Some how if its not come then Unplug the printer & Manually slide the carriage. Now Remove the ink cartridges from the print head & Use wet warm cotton swab or use alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head. Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab. After finished it make the head dry then fix it back. Now Try to print something now If that does not work then follow the next step.
Remove the printer data cable & restart the PC & printer. Then fit back the data cable & turn on the printer. Hope that's start working , if no luck then Uninstall the printer driver & restart the PC & Printer both again. Now install the driver of the printer and connect it with PC ,Turn on printer & go for a test print from the printer preference. Thanks & waiting for your reply.

My MP500 has stopped printing black (there is a new cartridge installed). - The colours appear to print as normal. Any ideas how I might sort this problem? Thanks.

This can happen when the print head becomes caked in ink. Generally, it is cheaper to buy a new printer than to purchase and replace the print head. Some people suggest cleaning with a q-tip and alcohol, but I haven't had much luck with that. It is also possible that the new cartridge is defective. try returning it and get a new one to try.

My IP4200 is doing the same thing, not printing any black ink at all on normal print jobs. What's weird is that it does print black in when printing the test pattern in the printer utilities. I have tried...

Does this give you the problem in all programs? Or just a particular one?Are you using the duplex feature?
Never use alcohol on the print head as it removes the clog then dries to fast so it sets another.Use ammonia at a 20-25% ratio in warm water.

Canon MP500 Printer head error

Hello,

Print heads for nearly all printers are rated at 2 years. You may also need to clean the tube from the resevoir at the ink supply to the cartridge and clean the working resevoir on the cartridge as well. If you are up to this challenge there is a how-to at your manufacturer's web site or you can have a tech do it. Most people, when they realize how inky you will be getting choose to have a tech do this.

It is best to use 100% denatured alcohol, from your hardware store, to clean these parts and tubing. But, you must take precautions.

DO NOT USE DENATURED ALCOHOL UNLESS YOU READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE BACK OF THE CAN.

I'm not kidding about the precautions. I do all this stuff outside when there is a breeze in the air and then I stay up wind of my work.

If you have any questions whatsoever just feel free to comment back to me.

Regards,
Worldvet

We have the same problem. I removed the cartridges, then removed the print head. There was lots of ink gunk on the print head. I cleaned it and the problem disappeared completely for a few days but is now back. I suspect the print head needs to be replaced. Still working on it.

Canon MP500 Printing Problem

I had same problem today. Removed print head and bathed it in alcohol for half an hour. Then I removed the two screws underneath and used a syringe to squirt alcohol into the ports and clean. I noticed clumps of ink coming out (i guess some ports were blocked). I then dried the head and reinserted and reinstalled ink tanks. All looks good so far- black printing again and printed test patterns all look correct. Good luck.
