Keyboard freezes intermittently on 24" intel iMac

Sometimes when typing, the keyboard stops responding for about 30-60 seconds. Then it comes back. This happens frequently. I have two different 24" intel iMacs, both do this! They are running OS 10.5.6. How do I fix this?

Run a Spyware, keylogger and virus check.

Typically, especially with keyloggers, the process of retention, assembly and transmission of your keystrokes to the recipient site or retention file will delay other processes while such transmission or retention is completed.

Scripts Kiddies don't write code that is efficient in handling data with consideration of the particular clock cycling for the simple fact that the code is written for the widest variety of processors and configurations, and as such the viral processes interfere with your legitimate use of your own system.

Number pad on iMac keyboard

What is the question?
There are two types of keyboards for Mac: one comes without the number pad (wireless) and the other one does (wired). For the wireless, you can purchase a separate number pad.

Connect an additional wired keyboard to your pc. And when the freeze happens check if the pc responds at all, using the wired keyboard. If its not responding , its an indication of a faulty PSU or motherboard.

I understand that you have problem with your keyboard. This problem is due to bad key switch contacts. Sometimes, the contacts not come in to contact and sometimes, the contact does not disconnect immediately after releasing the key. This is absolutely due to bad key contacts. Did you try replacing the keyboard? If not, try and get back to me with the results.

Thanks,

Shiva

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH KEYBOARD OF IMAC 24.How can open this keyboard?

There really are no user-serviceable parts inside an Apple keyboard.
If the keyboard is less than a year old, you can get it replaced for free under AppleCare (unless your problem was self-induced, like spilling a drink into it).
If it is more than a year old, I would recommend finding a replacement keyboard. Keep in mind that a Mac will work with any USB keyboard, and the software will let you remap the position of the command and option buttons to your taste.

IMAC SCREEN FREEZES OR GOES BLACK.

same thing happens to me - most of the time it will just randomly freeze; occasionally i get an unresponsive black screen. this 24' aluminum imac usually has startup problems also - sometimes it will "gong" and nothing else; sometimes the apple logo will come up and then nothing else; sometimes it will load the logo and then spin for a few seconds and then freeze - the only option is to manually shut down. there is no rhyme or reason to it

Mouse stops responding randomly

The issue may not necessarily be with the mouse. Are you able to use the keyboard once the mouse freezes? If you not even able to use the keyboard, there is some application installed on your computer or a virus due to which the mouse freezes. If, in case, the keyboard works even though the mouse is stuck, try changing the USB port or try a different mouse. Please revert back with any other observations. Good Luck
