I guess it would not be worth paying someone to fix it if it need major surgery, would you say. It is an old one, would you see for parts or what would you suggest? Thank you

Sounds like the axle slipped out of the differential. There is usually a snap ring on the axle which holds it in place. This could have broken, came loose, etc,

Major surgery needed.

Didn't mean to spook you with the major-surgery comment. I just meant it's not a job for the inexperienced.

I would definitely get the job quoted -- my guess is it's a lot cheaper than a new one, and if these mowers are properly maintained, they'll last a long time.

Do you need the manual for the machine or for the engine? Your model number comes back to a MTD Yard Man mower.

You can go to Briggs' website after you get the serial and model of the engine, for a manual on the engine.

It appears to be an electrical issue. Check the switch under the seat, mower engagement and others. Go to the Ariens website for more information on your specific riding mower.

Tecumseh 8hp HIGH REVING! snowblower

Hi,

be careful, if the engine over revs it may just explode. These engines are very picky if over sped and easily blow up.
Your problem may be a broken throttle control rod, have look at that first. If the control rods are fine and in place it could be the fly wheel governor is worn out.
