Question about Saeco VIA Venezia

Replacing orange gasket in top or portafilter

My wife removed the orange gasket (SAE.36) from the top of the portafilter to 'clean' it. I haven't had any success in replacing it - tried soap and end up with a portion of the gasket in place but not the entire gasket. Does the entire portafilter need to me taken apart to put the gasket back in place? Is it something easy to do or should I try to find someone to fix it, or buy a new one?
Thank you

Gaggia Baby filter is stuck!

The filter is stuck on the group head of the machine only by the force of dry coffee which acts like glou and since on the portafilter is secure by a wire spring which is probably loose and couldent hold the filter in place.
So all you need is a pointing screwdriver with edge like a nail or similar and use it on the filter try to level it out and by a little force try to move it and get unstuck. After that you can clean also the coffee remaining's on group head also.
In order to avoid this in future you will have to clean the portafilter from machine after you will make a coffee, replace the portafilter spring with a new one and clean the grouhead and grouphead gasket often with grouphead brush. You may need also to buy cleaning grouphead powder and backwash blid filter to perform backwash frequent. All these cleaning and parts you can easily find in eBay.

You need a new brew head gasket. They are not that hard to change. Four nuts hold the chrome head on. Once the chrome head is removed the gasket is pulled off then the brew head is cleaned and then you can put the new gasket on. Check ebay.

The handle is coming apart. It does not fit tight enough & sometimes falls while the coffee is brewing. Where can I purchase a new one to fit my Solis SL 70 machine purchased late in 2004.

HI
If the portafilter is coming out when brewing your brew head gasket needs to be replaced. If you have never replaced your brew head gasket its way beyond time. They should last about 3-4 years at the most. With a good brew head gasket the portafilter should be easy to lock in, not requireing a lot of pressure to force it over. Try replaceing the gasket first before you invest in a new portafilter. If you really need one I have some and the gaskets.

I get espresso grinds up on the machine above the filter basket after I make espresso.

Hi
Sorry to say but that is pretty normal. One trick we did is after making the espresso for the day, we emptied the portafilter basket of grounds, then put the portafilter back in the machine and ran the pump. Once we had water coming from the portafilter, we loosened the portafilter back and forth a couple times and this would clean the gasket and brew head. The gasket is very important and a dirty gasket can lead to trouble down the road.

Either the group gasket is dirty or damaged. Also check the basket for damage.

Yes you can. There's a bit of work involved. The issue is you have to remove the boiler through the top of the machine in order to access the gasket. If you're not careful, you can break one or all 3 lights because of the wires attached and the limited amount of room. I would take pics of everything before you begin. Then remove the 2 screws from the top of the machine. You can see all the wires and the brass boiler. Next remove the 4 cap screws near the brewhead where the portafilter goes. When you do this, you will see the boiler is now loose. I will let you decide how you want to do the rest. Either remove and label all the wires, or remove some of them or whatever you choose. Once you can remove the boiler, you will see that the chrome brewhead cover also comes off revealing gasket. Remove the damaged gasket, and clean the area where it sits. Put on the new gasket and put everything back. That's it. Good luck!

I have an Astra Mega I single group espresso machine 110v. I seem to not be getting enough water through the portafilter and it is all clean.

Remove portafilter, shower and screw and run the head. Did you get a nice steady flow or a weak drip. If a weak drip then the solenoid or the metering jet on the head is blocked and needs to be cleaned. If you get a nice flow the adjust the grind on the coffee to coarser.

I have a Briel MultiPro espresso maker. When I try to make coffee, water/coffee starts running over the edge of the basket and it "spurts" coffee and grounds after a few seconds.

The group head gasket needs to be cleaned or replaced. First get a brush and clean put the head, then insert back wash filter(basket with no holes) in portafilter, make sure that it is seated properly(atleast 90° angle with machine), then run the head if nothing leaks around the portafilter the gasket is fine, if it leaks then replace the gasket. Make sure that you press the stop button before removing the back wash filter.
