Ok. since you replace switch and solenoid. The problem is either the coil which is the little box that the cables connect to. You can use an ohmmeter or voltmeter to test. I also recommend doing same with clutch switch. Place one probe on one prong, and other probe on other prong. If you get a reading, than it is good, if not it is bad.
If you can jump wires directly to solenoid and it turns over, the problem is most likely the coil.

The battery can be checked at an Auto Supply like O'Reilly's for free.
Also there should be a 15 amp fuse called an in-line fuse (Buss ATC) that
goes in the line from the switch to the solenoid. It to may be bad and can be checked with digital ohmmeter

If the motor rolls over but will not start, check the oil. If that's
full, then there's one of two problems. Either the coil pickup is bad
or the electrical piece under the flywheel is bad. This looks like a
long curved plastic thing with copper wire around it. If its the older
style with points, clean them with an emery board or replace them. If
you need to do this, they need to be reset. place a matchbook between
them in the closed position and tighten the bolt.

    Thanks!
    Sandy

Battery hot wire hot at solenoid but no fire at start switch. Can jump solenoid and it will turn over. What do I look for?

The start switch ? Do you mean the starter relay your jumping the solenoid on the starter and it starts right but when your in the vehicle and you turn the key you get nothing right if this is correct the starter relay is no good when you turn your key in the steering column lock that moves the ignition switch on the steering column sending voltage to the relay then the relay sends it to the solenoid which then powers up the stater motor then it cranks the engine//// so the relay is bad

I have a husqvarna 42'' cut lawn mower. I can't

Test the small lead on solenoid for volts when you turn the key. The small lead is what jumps the two switch leads together internally with key in start position. You should be getting 12 volts or so on this small lead, if you have nothing there, check the key switch. Sounds like the key switch isn't sending power to solenoid. Also, check all grounds. Good luck

John deere Z225 riding mower won't start .hour meter lights up .jumped across starter solenoid and it started three times and run.replaced with a new starter solenoid and nothing then tried jumping...

measure with a valt meter and see what your voltage is at the battery . now measure what you have for volts at the soleoid. then check to see if you are getting 12 volts to the single peg on your soleoid, usually a whitwe wire. If your not getting voltage to this wire you probably have a safety switch problem. If you are getting voltage here check to make sure you are getting voltage at the starter motor. If your getting voltage there you may have a bad ground at the starter motor or the whole motor may need to be grounded to the frame.

96 ford explorer wont start. all power when turn key. nothing.

if it turns over from below, then its in the ignition switch and this also feeds power to the e.c.m. to make the engine fire so you either have a bad switch contact or the hot 12 volt wire to the ignition switch

check starter solenoid.see if getting power to starter side when pressing button .if yes check if power to starter w/ test light when pressing button.if power there check starter, also motor, will it turn manually or is it seized.if no power to starter side of solenoid, jump across solenoid posts w/ a large screwdriver -motor will probaly turn over,w/ key on.if small wire to solenoid has power when pressing start, solenoid bad,if no power, wiring or start button bad.
