Question about Compaq Presario 700 470024-192 Notebook

When recording music through the microphone jack or the internal microphone the music is chopped as if sections of the recording were cut down to a very low level with only random spikes of the music left. I'm using a compaq presario model CQ60-216DX computer with windows vista.

Microphone not working

Below are steps to troubleshoot and resolve your microphone issues. If you have any further questions you can email at my email address listed below.

Test the Microphone

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Sound Recorder.
    In Windows XP, you will need to select Multimedia (or Entertainment).
  2. Click the Record button, and speak into the microphone.
    The green waveform should react to your voice.
  3. To end the recording, click Stop.
  4. To hear your recording, click the Play button.

Check physical connections

  1. Verify that the microphone is connected to the red microphone jack for the sound card on the back of the computer and not the microphone jack for the modem. The microphone will not record if it is connected to the Mic jack on the modem.
  2. Test the microphone on another computer using Sound Recorder as in Step 1.

Check the volume control and mute properties.

Double-click the Speaker icon in the System Tray.

  1. Make sure the Volume Controls (or Master Out controls) are at least midway on all levels.
  2. Make sure there are no checks in the Mute boxes.
  3. Test the microphone using Sound Recorder as in Step 1.

Set Recording to Mic/Microphone

  1. Double-click the Speaker icon in the System Tray
  2. Click Options in the menu at the top of the window.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. Choose Recording in the Adjust Volume For section. Do not choose Playback in the Adjust Volume for section. Choosing Playback in conjunction with unmuting the mic may cause loud feedback during recordings.
  5. Ensure that Mic/Microphone has a checkmark next to it.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Test the microphone using Sound Recorder as in Step 1.

Reinstall Sound, Video and Game Controller Drivers

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click System and then click the Device Manager tab.
  3. Click the plus (+) sign next to Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
  4. Click each entry one at a time and then click Remove, repeating the steps until the Sound, Video and Game Controllers category is removed.
  5. Close all open windows.
  6. Reboot the computer.
    The sound card will be detected and you will be prompted to reinstall its drivers.
  7. Test the microphone using Sound Recorder as in Step 1.

<br />If your laptop has a line-in jack, follow the instructions above for connecting a music player to a desktop computer. But to connect a music player or other audio device to most laptops, you'll have to plug it into a microphone jack.   1. Adjust the notebook screen to place the microphone in the best direction for receiving sound.

  3. Click Record and speak into the microphone. Save the file to an easily-accessible location, such as the desktop.
  4. To play back the recorded sound, open the file using Windows Media Player.

Panasonic dvx100p is not recording audio


You may have switched the audio channels to the xlr inputs 1 & 2. The switches are under the flip out viewfinder try flipping them to the internal mic and see if you get levels. If the audio level nobs are turned down all the way you won't get audio either. Always check before you go out to shoot, record a few seconds of yourself doing an audio check then play it back to see if you hear anything.

If the acer 5532 has a microphone - where is it and how does it work. Is it possible to record live music?


Hi there.

The 5532 should have a microphone as it has a webcam in it. If not there is a microphone jack at the left side of it.

If you want to test your microphone there is an application called sound recorder. It is located in Start - all programs - accessories.

You can change the properties for the microphone if you right click on your speaker icon at the bottom right of your task bar (bottom right of the screen) and click on recording devices. This is assuming your computer has Windows 7 which I think it does. In this screen it will show all connected devices you can use for recording.

A recording application you can try is called Audacity. You will need to google it. It is a music recording program that is free. It isn't the easiest to use though. If you want to record live music you can use the sound recorder to record it as well.

Question (not a "problem") -


Yes, you can. You need a cable (A 3.5 to 3.5 audio jack - you can buy it for a few bucks at your local store) that plugs into the Microphone jack in the computer and the Headphone jack in the cassette player. After that, use a recording software (Such as AudaCity) and select the input microphone as the recording device. All you have to do, is press Record in the software and push play on the player. Is there an internal microphone and if so where is it located trying to record myself i have a compaq presario 2200


Hi, the HP Compaq Presario 2200 PC has no built in or internal microphone. You will have to purchase an external one to record audio. The microphone jack, when viewing the laptop from the front, is located on the left side.

There are small round holes which are jack ports. From the front to the back, the microphone port to plug in a microphone is the second hole back. Here is a manual in case you need more help with your laptop: Click Here.

ATR3350 Microphone: Battery in. Plugged into laptop. Recorded video. ATR3350 Mic is ignored. Audio is still recorded from my Logitech Webcam software. How does this thing work?


You need to tell your computer which microphone / sound source to use.
In he absence of other instructions it is defaulting to the built in microphone.
Normally your sound-card software should detect a new device plugged in and ask you to confirm it. However if it is not doing so you may need to change the audio settings.
How to correct this will vary slightly depending on which operating system you are using.

Using a microphone with computer

To use any microphone with your computer you will need to enable it in control panel. The following instructions are for Windows XP but are broadly similar for Vista and Win7


Click START, CONTROL PANEL, SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES



Click VOICE


Now click the VOLUME button in the SOUND RECORDING BOX. Here you need to SELECT microphone as an input source for recording (as opposed to un-checking mute in the playback controls). If your webcam/ microphone is built in to the laptop there should also be a volume control called 'Internal MIC' - disable it by placing a check-mark in the mute box.


NOTE if microphone (or internal MIC) is not listed in the 2 sets of volume controls click OPTIONS, PROPERTIES on the tool-bar and place a check against microphone in the list entitled 'show the following volume controls' and then click OK.


That should be it but it is possible you may also need to turn off the microphone in the software for your web-cam.

My speakers work but my mic does not. I cant see any hardware for my mic


Note that the microphone is not listed individually in Device Manager because it works through your sound card. Perform the steps in the following sections in order, and then test to determine if your issue is resolved after each section.

NOTE: The microphone should be selected as the recording device in the Volume Control tool(sndvol32.exe).

To verify this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
  1. In the Open box, type sndvol32.exe, and then click OK.
  2. Click Properties on the Options menu.
  3. In the Adjust volume for box, click Recording.
  4. Click OK.
  5. In the Microphone box, verify that the Select check box is selected.
All the properties listed on the Playback section of the Volume control are independet of the recording settings. So you could record through the microphone by selecting it on the recording section, and mute it on the playback section. Then, you could record sound, but wouldn't hear it through the speakers while you are recording. Check Your HardwareIf your microphone has never worked, or if it has stopped working, first check the physical connection of the microphone. Verify that it is firmly plugged into the microphone port instead of the headphone or speaker port. If you are not sure which port is correct, you can check the sound card to see if it is marked (sometimes with a picture of a microphone), you can use a process of elimination, check the documentation that came with your hardware, or contact the hardware manufacturer. Sound Recorder
  1. Run the Sound Recorder tool: Windows 95Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Multimedia, and then click Sound Recorder. Windows 98Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Entertainment, and then click Sound Recorder.
  2. After Sound Recorder is running, click Record (the circle on the right side), and then speak into the microphone. If it is plugged into the correct jack, the line on the display should move up and down. If it does not move, sound is not making it through your microphone. If the line does move, press Stop, press Rewind, and then press Play to listen to your recording. If this works, but it does not work in your program, view the "Using the Microphone in Programs" section in this article.
  3. Still Cannot Record
If you cannot record a .wav file after you follow the steps in the previous section, there may be a problem with your microphone property settings. To check these settings:
  1. Double-click the Speaker icon on the taskbar, and then verify that the Microphone slider is at the top and that the Mute check box is not selected. If Mute is selected, click to clear the check box.
  2. Select Properties from the Options Menu. Select Recording and click OK. Verify that theSelected check box under Microphone is checked, and that the Microphone slider is at the top.
  3. Try recording a .wav file again.
