If you are not a computer tech, don't try to repair the hearsink on your own. Heatsinks are 10 dollars thru 30 dollars and most repair shops will charge only about $25 to install it. You won't reget it, you can let the pros do their work or you might blow your motherboard or other devices, trying to do it yourself

I have a problem with my compaq presario cq60 due to overheating atimes the laptop turns off automatically when it gets too hot with is the problem

check the underneath of the laptop, there should be several access panels, remove these and look for fans, clear them of any dust you can see, the main fan should be blowing through a heatsink (lots of small fins) try to get to the part between the fan and heatsink as sometimes you can get a lot of dust build up there.

How to replace a cooling fan for Compaq Presario

I would definitely consider taking it to a certified repair shop first.

If you must do it yourself, get the proper fan, (Which you can find on ebay for around $22 new), a set of small screwdrivers, and preferably an anti-static wrist band. You will likely need to take out every single screw in the thing to get to the fan. It will be fairly straight forward to replace unless you need to take off the heatsink, in which case the following information may be useful. If you can avoid taking off the heatsink do by all means.

As with all electronics wash your hands first, touch a ground (Typically your sink facet is grounded), and stay grounded if possible (With the wrist pad), and avoid touching any chips as the oils from your fingers can cause problems.
And always take the battery out and make sure it's not plugged in before starting anything!

The fan itself has a 3 wire connector, and will simply screw into place on the heatsink.
If you do remove the heatsink from the cpu you may want some heat transfer goo .

Some heatsinks now don't use heat transfer goo any more and have a pink pad that melts at high temps which helps transfer the heat.

I prefer arctic silver for the heat transfer goo, and to remove the old heat transfer goo before adding the new. Place a very small amount on the heatsink, enough to cover the part it makes contact with and no more, being very careful to not allow any air bubbles, and making sure it's spread evenly across the surface. Don't use your finger, use a flat edge to spread it, Maybe a box razor blade or something similar.

If it uses the pink pad, do not put heat transfer goo on as when the pad melts the transfer goo will mix with the pad and degrade the performance of heat transfer. Ensure the pink pad is in the same place it was when you removed it.

Put back together, ensuring every screw is back in, then cross your fingers and toes.

if you are still in the year warranty microsoft will repair free,if not its £81 for them to fix.Its an easy fix if you want to do yourself, the thermal paste in between the heatsinks and chip needs replacing, look on youtube and you will find loads of vids on how to open console, you will also need an xclamp kit,you can buy for £2 on ebay(make sure you buy one with nylon washers and themal paste),then take heatsinks off and clean chips and bottom of heatsinks and replace with new paste, then either use original xclamps(i never do,i use xclamp kit,it makes job a lot easier)or use bolts and washers that you get with kit,and within an hour you'll have a working xbox, you can also veiw vids on youtube how to change xclamps and clean off old paste. It might look a bit tricky but its as easy as changing a fuse in a plug, just on a bigger scale

There is audio but no video when connected to the television. We have bought new cords with no success

A common problem with the xbox 360. If the console is still under warranty then microsoft will fix it or replace it.
However, if not then it can be fixed if ur of reasonable knowledge in electrics.I would suggest downloading one of the superb guides available on the internet that cover repairing these consoles in detail.
Basically the graphics chip has detached itself from the heatsink and overheated, this is normal wear and tear for these consoles as they heat up and cool down the mainboard flex's and seperates these main components. The Basic fix is to strip the console, remove the heatsinks and remove any old thermal compound from the h/sinks and processors. then apply new paste and re-fit the heatsinks using one of the metal kits available on ebay.
I Myself have been repairing these consoles for a while now, and possibly 2 out of every 30 may not work again. The information/ guides are available on the net and the xbox repair kits are available for between £2 - £3 on ebay.

How do i get rid of the red ring virus on xbox 360

There are plenty of suggested fixes on the net, but whichever one u go for, make sure its NOT the Twoel trick.... this will cause more damage in the long run, altho it does solve the immediate problem. If you are tech savvy, the rrod repair is quite easy to fix, but involves stripping the xbox down to the motherboard, then removing the to x clamps on the reverse of the board, and lifting off the 2 heatsinks from the processors, thoroughly clean all traces of old thermal compound from the heatsinks and processors and apply new paste. then using one of the many fix kits available on ebay re-attach the heatsinks as per instruction in the kit, plug in all cables but do not connect av cable to tv. turn on xbox until such time that 2 red lights come on. this means the unit is overheating, but it needs to do this to help with the bond of the new paste to the heatsinks. once the lights have come on, just unplug the power cable directly from the back of the Not use the button. and allow to cool for approx 30 mins. re-assemble the xbox and hey presto u should be up and running. Any probs email me directly!!!

X360 Picture not come up sound does

could be av leads but more likely to be heatsinks on gpu/cpu.if you have a 1 year warranty send it in to microsoft for repair,if not,the extended 3 year warranty does not cover this repair and will cost £81.if you want to fix this yourself, buy a xclamp kit off ebay for £2 take apart your console(theres plenty of videos on youtube on how to do this) remove heatsinks(you should get a link with xclamp kit on how to do this) and clean old thermal paste off and apply new,put xclamp kit on do the baker mod to heat up gpu, tighten screws and 99% it will work,if not try again till it does,i've done tis plenty of times and never had 1 that i hav;nt got working again

It loads up with sound but with no piture just a blank screen

im afraid the problem is caused by the same thing as the red ring of death, the only cure is to remove both heatsinks and re-seat them with new thermal paste, also remove the x clamps from the underside of the motherboard and use an all metal repair kit, from ebay to re-attach the heatsinks. email me for a more detailed description or further help.

Computer would not boot up

Seems like you have an overheating problem. Try clean/grease the CPU fan and the heatsink under it.
(Do it without removing the heatsink itself, otherwise you'll have to put it again using thermal compound between it and the CPU itself!)
If that doesn't solve the heat issue, try replacing the whole heatsink/fan kit with a better one. Furthermore, a computer case with an "air-tunnel" always helps cooling up your computer.
