1 Answer

I have an Elitegroup KT600-A motherboard (System model KT600 8236) manufatcturer VIA Technologies, Inc. with total physical memormy 640K. Processor is x86 Family 6 Model 4 Stepping 2 Authentic AMD ~998 Mhz. I would like to upgrade my memory and to Kingston 2 x 1Gb Pc3200 ddr ECC Sdram Ram Memory. Though there are three slots since this is 400 Mhz sticks as I understand it I can only use two not there. What is the ECC and can I use that with this board? And what would yor recommend for a new 462 pin processor? Would an AMD ATHLON XP 3200 BARTON CORE CPU A 462 PIN 2.2 400 FB work? If not what would you suggest? Many thanks in advance.

Hello, according to your boards manual page 38 you will have to use unbuffered memory (non-ecc) and depending on which OS your are gonna use, it might address up to 3 GBs of (SDRAM) my personal preferrence is 3x1 GBs with XP Pro 32 bits. The CPU you mentioned should work just fine, and with the added memory your rig should provide you better performance, hope this little bit of info helps.

Memory upgrade

I like all the information you gave. However the information you are looking for is in the manufactures web site. goto search engine and enter your computers manufactures name followed by the word "support" find the site and then look up the details for your computer. The reason I say this is because each slot can only control a certain amount of memory. The manufacture will tell you what each slot can control and also the type of memory supported by your motherboard. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT> never mix memory. Make sure of speed and capacity. If you mix diffrent speed and capacities the results could end in total failure.
