Question about Mitsubishi VS-50607 50" Rear Projection Television
T.v. shuts off by itself, I get a code 24, what is it?
The safety circuitry of the TV will shut it down when it detects a problem with the TV. The code is a starting point for a tech to start looking for the problem. The 24 code is an indication of vertical deflection failure. Mitsubishi is known for not having parts for their TV sets after they get to be 6 or 7 years old. They also make consumer repair of their TV sets difficult since they will not sell their parts to anyone but a registered repair facility. The only way to know for sure what is causing the problem, which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment and the skills to use the test equipment. Heat is the number one enemy of electronics, and these sets operate hot. This model of TV has over 3,000 parts which include millions of transistors inside the integrated curcuits. Over time the capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. This will cause other components to become defective. This can has a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again since if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. I expect the parts needed will cost less than $50 dollars unless it needs a board replaced. Most shops will charge about $350 to repair the set if they can get the needed parts. Small TV repair shops will often charge less than a large repair facility.

Tips for a great answer:
Hello - Typically the "ER" code displayed on your unit does typically indicate a shorted out control panel. This can happen by excess moisture getting into the control area. Let the unit dry for 24 hours with no use, and see if the display error code erases itself. If it does not, this unit will require the repair of a professional to move forward accurately.

The Error Code designations indicating a malfunction, or no malfunction, are listed below:
"12" ... indicates no error has occurred.
"21" ... X-Ray Protect circuit.
"22" ... Short Protect circuit.
"23" ... Horizontal Deflection failure.
"24" ... Vertical Deflection failure.
you will have to count the blinks, then there is a short pause and then following a second set of blinks this tells what is wrong with set.
