Get a container to catch the liquid and bring the machine up to temp. Slowly open the valve being careful not to burn yourself. Let the machine spit and sputter till all the air comes out the line. This is called bleeding the line. If you have to repeat this then you have a leaky connection somewhere that is allowing the air to get into the machine while it is not in use.

Unit is 5 years old and the espresso grounds holder has become VERY difficult to align and insert up into the machine.

After 5 years, the plastic has become warped by the heat of being used. The warpage could be in the holder, in the slot it slides into, or, most likely, both. If you can't handle the difficulty, then it is time to replace the unit. Actually, 5 years on any appliance is darn good service.

How can I get an Instruction Manual

Contact the manufacturer (Briel) about that one. They don't seem to have manuals on their website ( www.briel.pt ), and their customer service number is in Portugal, so I would recommend sending them an email to request a manual - their email is geral@briel.pt

Good luck! :)

Everything works on my Briel Sintra, but the espresso part!

Adjust the grind on the coffee or the tamping / packing pressure on the grounds.

Coffee will not brew, heating element does not seem to work

You either have a bad thermostat, heating element, cord, or limit. If it was me I would check each component with a meter for continuity. Get a cheap meter that beeps when you touch the 2 leads together. This is continuity or a continuous circuit. One of them things I mentioned is kaput. This is not rocket science. Limits can be bought cheap. Let me know what you find out.

I have a Briel ED 132A Classic how do I prime the pump for the st

Sometimes the self- priming pump feature may not work due to a momentary "air lock" condition. If water does not flow from brew head, place a cup under the steam frother. Open steam control and turn the switcher onto the icon of the half-full cup until water flows from steam frother. Turn off steam control, as Espresso maker is now ready.

Try opening the frothing valve by turning the dial and force water through it instead of steam by pressing the middle, coffee button. You may be experiencing vapor lock. Once the water comes through the steamer valve, turn the steamer knob off and release the coffee button. Then try the steamer button with the steamer dial open. This may do the trick.
