How to clean the fan of my computer

Regular maintenance of your Compaq Presario laptop helps to keep the machine running properly.

Keeping the fans clean is especially important, because the fans blow out hot air and bring in fresh air to cool down the laptop.

Fans attract dust, however, which can slow them down, resulting in a hot laptop.

If the laptop overheats, vital parts can cease functioning altogether.

Consequently, keeping your laptop's fans clean is crucial.

or you might want to remove it to get it clean

HP Presario C500 is a laptop that, like most other laptops, requires a clean, functioning fan in order to work properly.

If your fan is too full of dust to function properly or needs to be replaced because it is no longer working, then your computer could be in danger of overheating and crashing.

Instead of having to purchase a new laptop because your C500's fan has failed, remove it and clean the fan or replace it with a new one.

Turn off your computer and unplug all the cords and cables from it, even the power cable.

Turn the laptop over and remove the battery, then remove all the screws at the bottom of the computer with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

Remove the two face plates from the bottom of the computer and you'll see the hard drive and RAM below.

The face plates will come out easily once the screws are removed.

Remove the two screws holding the hard drive in place and then lift the hard drive out.

Remove the screw found directly below the hard drive.

Turn the laptop over again and pop off the keyboard.

If all the screws at the bottom of the computer where removed, then the keyboard will come right out.

Remove all the screws underneath the keyboard and case and then lift the case enough to access the fan assembly in your HP Presario C500.

Unhook the cable coming from the fan into the motherboard and remove the screws holding the fan in place, then pop the fan out of the computer.

Hope this helps

Laptop won't start after installing new keyboard

Check the screws. One of them may be too long and is shorting out the laptop. If they are all the same length, I would remove them all and try it. Then install them one at a time to find out which one makes it work or, not work.

Keyboard on laptop doesn't work

You can do one thing before you replace the keyboard. Before you begin remove the battery the ac power. You will need to remove the Hinge Cover. You can't remove it by pulling on both sides at the same time. You will have to use a Plastic Scribe to lift one side at a time.It will pop off. There are four screws which secure the keyboard to the computer remove them, slide the keyboard towards the front to remove it.Underneath there is a ribon cable which is connected from the keyboard to the motherboard try to dislodge it without breaking or tearing the cable. Now that you have the keyboard, you can go ahead and reattach it to the motherboard. There are six tabs at the back of the keyboard that you must align in odred to replace it.Hopefully that will solve your problem. If not you will need to replace the keyboard.
Good luck

B key on my Dell Latitude popped off

Generally, once a key pops off a portable keyboard the keyboard needs to be replaced. It is pretty simple to replace and not too expensive.

Here is an example of a replacement on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-KEYBOARD-DELL-8500-500M-Latitude-D505-D600-D800_W0QQitemZ250338315590QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item250338315590&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

To replace the keyboard, just remove the hinge cover, take out the screws for the keyboard and lift the keyboard to release the cable connector.
