SOURCE: dyson DC07

First, check your outlet for power...plug something else in. Then, inspect the cord and check the power switch. You can use a multimeter to test across the power plug of the vacuum in the ohms position. Turn the switch off and on. If it does not change readings...the switch or cord is bad. If it does, it might be the motor.

Dyson DC07 - Washing the filter

To wash the pre-motor filter in your Dyson DC07, please follow the simple steps shown in the video below. This procedure applies to all Dyson DC07 variants.

The filter should be washed every 3-6 months using cold water. Always ensure the filter is totally dry before refitting it - this may take up to 24 hours.

Dyson stopped working

There are three things that "stop" (no noise anymore) a DC07 working. I will list them in order of the most common to least common faults.

1) The motor is burnt out. Caused by over filling and not cleaning the filter regularly. You must replace the post motor filter when getting the motor replaced
2) The power cord has failed. This can usually be seen by visually inspecting the cord for damage.
3) The on/off switch has failed.

All of these faults should be repaired by a licensed sparky for safety reasons.

My dyson dc07 has started to smell a bit of burning.

This will be 1 of 2 problems.

1. If its a burnt rubber smell then its the belt that has gone and will need to be replaced.
2. If its a metalic smell then your motor is burnt out.

Replacing the belt is easy enough, the motor is a lot more complicated and should be left for an expert.

Hi the burning smell is from the Motor. Your Motor has burnt out. You will need it replaced.

A new motor will cost around £40

If you would like us to advise you on how to swap the motors over then please order the motor and come back to us.

Dyson dc08 motor made rumbling sound and stopped

Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. Almost certainly it is the motor gone :(. Take off the lid that is under your bin and look at the filter underneath, if it has a black underside and a kind of burnt smell you will need to put a new motor in. If you happen to live in Australia you can get a motor from NelsonVacuums.com.au here is a link to the correct page. Hope this helps.
happy Vacuuming!

On turning on different noise then noticed smell of burning then just stopped working and no power since. DC 07 Dyson.

Unfortunately your motor had burnt up..most times this is due to not cleaning or replacing the filters...the filters get dirty and the motor gets no airflow to cool it....very common on dyson vacs
