If you go into the options / setup of the tv there should be options to turn auto volume on or off or even alter settings with regards to the audio ( try and alter those ) see if that helps.

If not you should at least have audio outputs to connect separate speakers in which case purchase a nice set of speakers or connect the output to an amp and then to surround sound or stereo speakers.

I have not got a philips tv but if you post back with the model then I may be able to look at the guides to see if there is anything in there or even an FAQ on the website.

Short of that if its under warranty you may be able to return it to the shop or place of purchase assuming its not 2nd hand or get it repaired at a tv shop.

Other then that there is not much else advise I can offer

My TV has suddenly developed a distorted(tinny) sound

Check the speaker/s. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience.

could be a driver issue, but I'm inclined to suspect damaged sound chip. I would personally install a separate sound card, in most cases, better quality sound anyway

When volume from receiver is turned up amp will "clip" out, lose all bass and sound real tinny. what could be causing problem?

This can be caused by a defective output power transistor, but a professional electronics technician is needed to test and confirm this.

Is this the same for all audio, music, system sounds, etc.? Possibly a sound card or driver problem. Did it start doing this all of a sudden?

The sound on my Dell laptop has suddenly gone very tinny and distorted. Does anybody know what the cause may be and how I could fix it without calling Dell in India?! Thanks

I would use the audio output of your netbook to supply signal to any external audio system so you can determine is it is an internal circuit problem or simply a failed speaker. If the distortion is present in the sound output from the external system, then a circuit in the netbook has failed. If it isn't audible in the external system, then a junky speaker has failed in the netbook.

sounds like the tape monitor may be turned on. First place to check anyways. If it is not the problem, I am happy to talk more about it with you and do some more diagnoses.
