Re: formatting 1g memory card

First, please let us know with what are you trying to format the card.
Also the type of card would be useful as well. An SD card for example has a little plastic catch on the left side that sets the card to read only.

When you mention a phone however it could be anything... For nokias for example a card formatted by a PC is often unusable on the phone. I suggest that you try to switch off the phone then before turning on the phone press and hold the abc button and hold it down all the way through the boot up process (when it asks for the pin or gives you the standby menu).

Sony ericsson phone are not normally troubled by this.

As for the error message would you be using Vista ? if this is the case this would be a question of access rights ... are you admin ?

I bought a 2GB micro SD memory card for my phone but it wont work. i tried formatting it using my phone but it was asking for a password :/ do i have to set a password for it? how do i format it with a pc?

To format it on a PC, simply insert it in your PC if you have a microSD slot, or use a card reader.
When you get the Removable Media driver simply right click and press "Format", press Format again on the menu and wait a few minutes. Then try it on your phone.
Have fun :)

Cannot formate 4GB memory to FAT16 use for mobile phone samsung

If you are trying to format this card through a PC don't bother, it will not work when you install it into the phone.
If you are trying to format this card in the phone, you may find that your phone will not access high capacity type cards as few older phones do, and by older, I mean if the phone is more then 6 months old, the chances are that it will not allow access to the card.
Some phones also have an upper limit to the size of the card they will address and most will not address any card larger then 2gig..
Of course, you may also have a faulty card, even from new, some of the high density cards are faulty..
If you can get access to a smaller card (like say a 1gig), try that in your phone. If it works then you will find that your phone cannot address high density cards.
I have a camera, less then 6 months old, will address normal 2gig cards but it will not allow high density 4 gig cards which is a pain but alas, nothing you can do about it..

Hi j_perez022,

Insert the memory card into a reader on your computer. Open My Computer. Right-click on the drive letter for the memory card. Select Format from the menu. Click on Start in the Format window. Proceed from there.

How to reformat kingston 1G memory card???

If you have a card reader, install the card and use "My Computer" to select that drive and "Format". Otherwise sometimes the device you are using the card in will have that option in it's settings.

HI there, I have a scan disk memory card 1G when it is in the phone (nokia 3500c) it told me ... "memory card not formatted". So i format it ... but it keep telling me that the card need to be formatted...

If you can, plug the memory card into your computer, open it for viewing and delete all files on the card.  Then put it in the phone and format it.  This is the only way I can think to do it.  At least this is what I had to do.  Good Luck.

How do i format my scandisk

If you are only using the card in a PC then when you plug the card into pc,it shows as a drive under my computer, you rt on the drive and pick format, fat.

If you are using a sd card for anything else such as a phone, you format the card with the phone,or whatever devise it is being used in, and you DO NOT format the card with the PC.
