Question about Danby DWC283BLS Wine Cooler

Danby wine refrig

The wine refrig was unplugged from June through Sept.  We just plugged it back in but after 24 hrs it is warmer within the refrig than the outside temp.  Is there anything we can do....seems to be running but not cooling.

We turned off our Danby DWC283BLS wine Cooler in December before we went out of town. When we returned in February and plugged it back in, it started Ok, could hear it running, but the RUN indicator stays on all the time and the appliance does not cool. We followed the directions and unplugged it for 5 minutes then plugged it back in. There was no change, the compressor is running and there is still no cooling and the RUN indicator remains.

THE LAST THING THAT EVER HAPPENS IS FREON LOSS.

SO TRY THIS FIRST ...

LET THE COOLER STAND WITH "NO POWER FOR 24 HRS.

MAKE SURE IT INSIDE AT ROOM TEMP. NO HIGHER THAN 75 deg. AFTER THE ALOTTED TIME TURN THE T-STAT-"OFF" AND TURN THE POWER "ON" ...

THE CONDENSER FAN SHOULD START IMMEDIATELY. NOW LISTEN REAL CAREFULLY BY THE COMPRESSOR TO HEAR ANY CLICK NOISE. IF YOU DO THAT IS THE EXTERNAL OVERLOAD ( bI-METAL SAFTEY T-STAT THAT PROTECTS THE COMPRESSOR. TURN POWER OFF AGAIN AND DO THE FOLLOWING.

THERE IS : 1) A START (plug-in) RELAY THAT PLUGS INTO THE COMPRESSOR.

2) THERE IS A START ASSIST CAPACITOR MOUNTED USUALLY ON THE TOP OF THE COMPRESSOR TEREMINAL COVER.( THIS IS HELD ON WITH A METAL STRAP THAT CAN BE "POPED-OFF" WITH A SCREW DRIVER. OR IT MAY HAVE 2 MOUNTING SCREWS.

3) THERE IS A ROUND BI-METAL T-STAT THAT PROTECTS YOUR COMPRESSOR.(AS STATED ABOVE).

MAKE A DRAWING OF WHERE EVERY WIRE GOES AND THE DEVICES ON PAPER. .... THEN ... AND ONLY THEN REMOVE ALL 3 PARTS AND TAKE THEM TO YOUR LOCAL APPLIANCE REPAIR OUTLET. eg. APPLIANCE PARTS. APCO ETC.

THEY WILL CHECK ALL 3 COMPONENTS FOR YOU AND MOST ALL HAVE UNIVERSAL REPLACEMENTS FOR ALL 3 DEVICES NO MATTER WHAT BRAND YOU HAVE.... AND THEY SHOULD BE ABOUT $10-$15 EACH.

I HAVE REPAIRED HVAC & REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT FOR OVER 40 YEARS. WHAT I DO IS REPLACE ALL 3 DEVICES. IF ONE IS BAD IT TENDS TO OVERHEAT THE OTHER COMPONENTS AND WEAKENS THEM.

NOTE: NEVER INSTALL REFRIGERANT SELFTAPPING VALVES TO CHECK FOR FREON ... A AMP DRAW WILL TELL YOU IF COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING AT FULL LOAD , AND AT THE EVAPORATOR YOU SHOULD HAVE A 10-20 DEG F. DROP IN TEMP. YOUR EVAP COIL SHOULD FORM A EVEN FROST ON IT IN ABOUT 2-3 HOURS.

THE MAIN THING IS TO ENSURE COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING.

IF YOU HAVE A THERMOMETER, THE LARGER COPPERLINE ON THE COMPRESSOR SHOULD BE ABOUT 50-60 DEG.AND EVENTUALLY WILL "SWEAT". THE SMALLER LINE SHOULD READ 120-150 DEG "AT THE COMPRESSOR" OUTLET CONNECTION.

MAKE SURE YOUR CONDENSOR AND EVAPORATOR COILS ARE BOTH ABSOLUTELY CLEAN. (CHECK WITH SMALL BRIGHT FLASH LIGHT TO SEE THROUGH COIL FINS.

THAT SHOULD SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM. YOU MAY FIND WHEN TAKING THE PARTS OFF ... A BROKEN OR BURNT WIRE. IF SO REPLACE IT WITH AT LEAST #12 STRANDED WIRE.

PROPER WIRE AND TERMINALS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE APPLIANCE PARTS STORE IN YOUR AREA.

GOOD LUCK ... JOE_REX

CORRECTION AFTER TURNING "THE COLD CONTROL' ( T-STAT in side cooler) "OFF" AND POWER "ON" AFTER 24 HRS. TURN THE COLD CONTROL T-STAT SETTING TO MID DIAL RANGE FOR NOW. IF THE CONDENSSOR FAN AND COMRESSOR FAIL TO START. UNPLUG THE COOLER AND JUP-OT THE WIRES TO THE COLD CONTROL / T-STAT. IF THE COLD CONTROL IS GOOD ... ONCE IT RUNS FOR A GOOD 8 HRS .. IT SHOULD START CYCLING OFF AND ON ON THE COLD CONTROL. ADJUST TO YOUR SPECIFIC SETTING TO MAINTAIN 50 DEG. FOR WINE.

Refrig door was not completely shut fof about 24 hrs temp was 50. Makes a loud noise when running and about 8 hrs after discovery has only gone to 46 degree

Listen to sound where is it coming from bottom back? Or inside near back wall . noise could be ice on or around evaporator fan if you can unplug for 12 hours leave doors open this will melt ice . if it is ice that will fix it.

My danby wine cooler does not get cold enough

Cool enough? You know most wine and beer only like it about 50 degrees and not any cooler. If it up at 55 and you have set it lower then the room is probably warmer then it can handle to cool them. I have some in the garage but in July and August the struggle to stay any cooler then 55 but then they are not expensive units either. Danby is cheap brand too. Nothing they make is that great.

Danby Silhouette DWC513BLS lower back fan noise.

Called Danby customer service. Requested repleacement part of lower fan unit. Located at bottom right on back of unit. Part was $6.68 plus shipping. Less than $10 total. At my door in 3 days. Plug and play piece that was easy to change. A very cheap fix and I hate to think what a service call would have been. Danby ph # is 800-263-2629.,
