A lot of use will notice the signs of a computer virus immediately. Regular crashing, various error messages, a gradual decrease in loading times. With a standard virus scanner, you should be able to rid your computer of these infections rather easily, however, a basic virus scanner will not pick up everything. Spyware is a form of infections which can avoid detection by replicating itself deep in the system registry and program files, stealing your personal information while its there. To find spyware, unless you now exactly what you are looking for it can be almost impossible to completely eradicate without anti spyware software .

There could be several things wrong but with the information provided, I am going to say that you have a virus and/or spyware. Run a complete scan on system with both antivirus and spyware remover. Rid of all spyware. If you have Limewire, delete it and reboot. This should stop the computer from rebooting.

I/o devices do not respond to the computer. The screen and the IBM logo appears.

Looks like time for a new computer. 256 MB is not nearly enough to run XP. The reason for replace, is very small repairs cost most of a new system, and when you're done, but you still have an old machine, likely to fail.

New OS Windows 7, is not to be afraid of, it really works well.

IBM netvista PIII type 6579 MNU doesn't boot

Sound like the memory is not compatable, try booting with no memory installed and see if the hard drive appears, if so it's a memory problem.

I need to install a network card for my IBM MS-6188

have you tried with a different network card? if no try with a different card. if it does not recognise it go to control panel and to add new hardware. follow the on screen procedure and see if it will see it.
If problem still persists, try doing a clean copy of OS

USB 2 PCI card installation on IBM NetVista with MS Vista

Lucy,

USB 2.0 cards require 2 IRQs.
  • 1 IRQ supports USB 1.1
  • and the other the Enhanced (USB 2.0) controller.
Installing the USB 2.0 card in a slot that does NOT share an IRQ or shares an IRQ with onboard USB produces the best result. Consult your motherboard manual or online guide to determine which PCI slot is best for you.

You should also try disabling the on board USB support from BIOS setup.

Thanks

I have netvista 6578rbg, it can boot from the hard disk

Hi lyonson, I gather at one time the drive did function with Vista? IBM has some fix on their web site. Click this link below.

http://www.ibm.com/search/?v=14&en=utf&lang=en&cc=us&hpp=10&catx=Y1zkzPzk6z93z46zP7&q=netvista+6578rbg&cp=&lv=c&cat=k6&x=12&y=10
Even if one of these fix's does not match your exact model no# . Try one that is close. If it does not help call IBM. I assure you it is not your PC but Vista. (There has been & will continue to be more down time with MS's Vista than any other previous version of windows to date). If non of IBM's files listed help you, please call IBM from this link. http://www-304.ibm.com/jct03004c/support/operations/us/en/contracts?cm_re=masthead-_-myibm-_-cs-contracts

I wish I could help more but other suggestions involve erasing the drive & that's not a good idea if you have data on it.
I would appreciate it if IBM solves this issue or one of the firmware’s fix your issue & you post the results. I’d call IBM my self if I had all needed information written on the NetVista PC.

Good Luck!
Mike

IBM Mainboard MS6188 on Net Vista IBM PC Systemes ??

Your machine is a Netvista 6280 or similar. Several models used that MSI motherboard. Go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4RZ2LT

IBM's latest BIOS and all other 6280 drivers are listed.

The MS6188 motherboard uses an Intel 810 chipset, you should not have any drive size problems, at least up to 30 GB, that could not be overcome by partioning the drive.

Good luck.
