Computer shuts down on startup

When I start up the computer after a short while the computer shuts down no matter on what page you are. Is it processor getting heated up?

Actually the computer shuts down just started up. It even goes to bios but shuts down at the same time after start up. It already has fan at the rear but the supply is coming from power supply. The computer even shuts off when no peripherals attached. Just memory, processor, video card. Some times it even says "boot failure: system halted". So may be I try to change power supply.

Good morning! it is possible the heat temperature affected the start-up on/off condition, kindly check the CPU FAN if still in good working condition otherwise we have to replace it, then check the computer ventilation if still we need to install an exhaust fan 12v designed for computer. However, another case can be the wattage rating of your Power Supply (ex. 200W) which support the power requirements of all parts & devices of your computer especially during CD burning, if this is the case, I suggest to replace it with higher rating around 400W-500W. best regards

Good morning! please don't change your power supply yet because per your 2nd report the computer immediately shutdown after a short start-up only. wherein I also experienced such incident with my 5 years old computer before. How old is your computer motherboard? per inquiry & study, common operational lifespan of a non-branded computer motherboard is 3 years to 5 years depending on its usage, but for branded ones like Intel it may exceed 5 years. Kindly think it over if you're ready to replace the motherboard & can still use the other peripherals/devices of your computer, which I suggest for you to decide. warm regards

How To Tip #1: Disabling your Startup Items

Is your computer reacting slowly when it starts up and shuts down? The cause of this is likely due to the fact that many people have an enormous amount of programs that launch when Windows starts up. Hence when you boot into the Operating System, Windows wants to load each program while you just want to do something else.

The same goes when trying to shut down your computer. Windows needs to close all open programs and services in order to shut down. The less you have running, the quicker it is to start up and shut down. Additionally, you may also notice a sharp increase in your computer's performance since it won't be using as much of the computer's resources with all those background processes running.

If you have a ton of programs that are loading during startup, it's very easy to disable these. This won't uninstall that program, it just won't start at the same time as Windows. It will still be on your hard drive and ready to work when you want to open it.

To stop these programs from starting up with Windows, simply click on Start, type in MSCONFIG, then hit Enter. Remove the check mark next to Load Startup Items and then reboot. That's all there is to it.

Delete page superimposed on my desk top home page

I'm assuming this is a Finder window. In Finder, press Apple-option-W just before you shut down the computer. This will close all Finder windows; they will should not open when you start up the computer unless they were open when you shut it down.
If it's not a Finder window, you will have to deal with whatever application is being told to run at startup. Without knowing what it is, I don't have enough information to tell you more, other than to suggest you go to your User Accounts in System Preferences, click the Login Items tab and either check the Hide box for that application, or remove it from the Login Items list.

My Toshiba Satellite L300-D won;t get poast Startup Repair page. Keeps defaulting to Startup Repair and then says "Windows cannot automatically repair your computer". It all started with a folder...

Your Hard drive is faulty which means it wont go any further and loops back trying to fix a problem it cant do. you can either replace the hard drive and install everything from scratch or send it in to a computer repair shop to do it for you. Kronoguy

Computer wont start and when it does it shuts itself down

Sound like a power overload system is kicking in, which means either a bad power supply or shorted circuit else where. Disconnect the DVD, CD, and any other devices to narrow it down. Try another known good power supply. If all this fails, it's going to be a problem with the motherboard, by elimination. There can be an intermittent capacitor or electronic heat sensitive part that's shutting down the computer. There are diagrams and videos on the net that can guide you through possible problems, in case you want to fix it yourself. Google "Intermittent Computer Startup" and you will find some good suggestions. One site is this one:

Good luck.

My startup page on my computer takes forever. How to speed it up

If you're running Vista that's normal.

Here’s a quick procedure that helps speed windows vista startup:

  • Click the Windows Start button
  • Right click Computer
  • Click Properties
  • Click Advanced System settings
  • In the Advanced Tab, Start and Recovery, click Settings
  • In the Time to display operating systems list setting, set a 5 second value instead of 30.
  • Click Apply
Now, Reboot your PC. You’ll notice a boost in the performance of the startup process.

Computer locks up or shuts down shortly after startup . However in safemode it does not!

Start with the basics. Run a check disk on it:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/kbtip.mspx
(which can be done in safe mode).

Go into MSCONFIG (start -> run -> type "msconfig" and look for anything in the "Startup" tab that looks unfamiliar or suspicious (nothing but garbled letters, or a completely blank entry)

Blue Screen of Death during startup

When you get the BSOD - it gives a brief description of what the error is - this should lead you in the proper direction for finding the culprit - is the computer a new configuration - is it an old system that just started doing this? Have you made any change? All these things have to be considered and evaluated.
