Question about Cuisinart Brew Central 12-cup Coffee Maker

1 Answer

My coffee maker wont turn on - it's plugged in & power is on.

We tested the outlet where we have it plugged in with a can opener & it works fine. But when we plug the coffee maker in & turn it on - it won't turn on - the light doesn't even come on. There's a light that does comon that says 1-4 - the clock works, but that's all.

Hello cutecuddles1,
I have a possible solution for you. Sometimes the unit will not work when the stick filter is blocked. A sensor shuts down the unit until corrected.
Your described problem may be one of two problems. Let's start with the easier solution first. In the DCC 1200 there is a filter "stick or column" in the left rear. Pull it out and remove the clogged carbon filter(s) that are in there. Shine a light into the receptacle and remove the debris in the bottom. It is likely that this is causing the problem with you machine needing to be started on multiple times. See if this solution works. If it does, you might run 8 cups of water and 4 cups of vinegar through to help decalcify the units plumbing. Do this once or twice and then rinse with at least one pot run-through of clean water. If this works then you are good to go.
Next, if this does not solve your problem we can do the following: unplug the unit and lay it on its back. You will need a #10 torx driver (hardware store if you don't have one) to remove the bottom cover plate. There are 4 torx screws holding it on. When removed, you will find 2 orange hoses. Carefully attempt to remove the left hose without splitting. I used an eyeglass screwdriver to loosen it up. If it splits, just cut off the split and stretch it to reconnect when time comes. As you look into the hose you will find a little black valve inside as well a some gunk. Clean it all out with a fine wire as best you can. Rinse well. Attempt to reconnect the hose back onto the pipe. Slip the pipe clamp back into place. Replace the cover and screws and you should be good to go again. This is not as daunting as it may seem. You can do it. :o) Good luck! If this answer helps, please leave positive feedback for me. Much appreciated. Regards, NormanZ

Coffee maker doesn't appear to have power

Make sure the outlet where the coffee maker is plugged in is live. Plug in a different appliance to verify that the outlet works. After that, there is usually a power button on the back or side of the machine. If you still have no power it is probably a fuse that is inside the coffee maker. This is best left to a skilled electrician or appliance repair person.

Turned my coffe maker off for week-end & now will not heat up water

Make sure it's getting power, and that the "vacation" switch isn't on.

If on a GFCI outlet, press the RESET button - Do Not press the "test" button. If GFCI is located upstream on another outlet, or the breaker (not uncommon), try resetting the breaker or that other outlet.

If still no joy, check that the outlet is hot by plugging something else into it. If that item doesn't work either check the circuit breaker for that outlet by moving the lever all the way to the Off position, then back to the On position. You should hear a click like a light switch.

Blow electric circuits

First, check all of the outlets on the circuit breaker that is being tripped to see what's plugged in. Look at the nameplate information for each piece of equipment, including the coffee maker and right down the Amps rating. Add up the amps. If it exceeds the breaker current rating, you will either have to unplug or turn off something else in order to run the coffee maker, or plug the coffee maker into an outlet on a different breaker.
If that is not the problem, you probably have a short circuit inside the coffee maker.or bad insulation on the power cord. Unplug and unload the coffee maker. Carefully inspect the power cord. If there are cracks or breaks (pay special attention to the plug and the point where the cord goes into the coffee maker), then replace the power cord. It's tempting to just tape over broken insulation, but if the insulation is deteriorating, it's not worth the risk.
If the cord appears to be OK, then remove the bottom cover plate and inspect the wiring for both heaters. If there are signs of arcing between connections or wires, clean it up and repair the wiring as needed (Note: carbon tracks burned into plastic are short-circuit paths. These have to be dug out like a dentist cleans out a cavity in a tooth. Epoxy is usually a good filler.). If there is contamination from a spill, clean it up thoroughly using a damp rag if necessary (do not immerse in water). Wipe everything dry, then wait a while to be sure it is dry. Reassemble and test. If there is a water tank leak into the electrical compartment, you will have to evaluate whether patching or replacing the part is feasible.

Please ensure it is plugged in. Also, ensure the outlet you are plugging it into is receiving power by plugging something else into it that you know is working. If it is a GFCI switch and there is no power you may simply need to hit the reset button.

Brewer was working fine in the morning, now is off and wont turn back on, curcuit breaker is fine, machine is plugged in. Any ideas?

Test your outlet with another appliance first.

Sometimes a safety trip breaker, such as those installed as bathroom outlets, get tripped and need to be reset. Make sure to press the "reset" button on your outlets. On the same circuit but in a different room, it sometimes gets overlooked as a solution.

If problem is still evident I would contact the manufacturer. Often times they will replace the appliance free but leaving you to pay for the shipping, sometimes only being $10.

NO POWER TO UNIT

Is there power to the outlet itself?? If not see if you have a GFCI (ground fault circuit interupter) outlet near by ( it is an outlet that is usually shaped different than the other outlets) this outlet has two buttons on it "trip" and "rest" press the "rest" button this may turn the power on to the coffee outlet. If still no power, check to see if the breaker in the house power panel is tripped, if so rest the breaker by moving the switch on the breaker to the "off" position then back to the "on" position. This should reset the breaker, it trips again there is a problem that needs a more skilled person to assess. If this doesn't work there could be a problem with the coffee maker itself and unless you have the equipment to test and repair this you may be out of luck.
