Won't go into gear

We have a 19.5hp 42 inch cut Craftsman riding lawnmower. It won't go into gear. What could be the problem?

It has a gear transmission. My husband was mowing the yard, and he put it in reverse to turn around and then after he turned around, it wouldn't go into any of the positions you mentioned. It just went thru all the positions like you were drawing a straight line.

It sounds like an internal problem such as the indent ball @ Spring,This allows transmission fork inside transmission to go to other gears when it goes it usually will stay in the gear it is in but will not shift !

try this link, they don't deal specifically with craftsman parts, though they do have aftermarket suitable substitutes for craftsmen. This website has excellent illustrated parts breakdowns for numerous other riding lawnmowers though and I'll bet that something like MTD or White Outdoor is exactly the same as your mower. I have a White outdoor 42 inch riding mower and have changed numerous parts using these illustrations. Good luck

Cut grass clippings does not get picked up by riding lawnmower

When using a bagger, you need correct blades on mower or Worn blades will cause the deck not to get the vacuum needed for the bagger to pickup.
