Re: sup dude

Their is typically 2 reasons to get that message.
1 your system has corrupted some files by being shutdown improperly, virus / spyware, or random microsoft glitch.
2. Your harddrive has devloped bad sectors and cannot read that area of the disk.

Grab your install disk, boot to the "Press any key to boot" when you see it.
Press Enter
Press F8
then press R for the Restore Console

It may ask what keyboard you want to use, then default to english.
At this point you will see a screen that looks like dos. Type in
 chkdsk c: /f /r /x
Once that completes restart and see what you get.
If that does not fix the problem:
You will need to reinstall windows. You can just do a repair install, and that will not delete any files on the machine.

Ntldr missing

If you press F11 as you power up, it should find the restore partition.
I would place an OS disc of the same type installed on your laptop and run repair system.

NTLDR is missing problem

NTLDR is NT Loader program and corrupted or missing NTLDR will not allow you to boot up.

Keep your Operating system Bootable CD ready and boot your computer with CDROM. Follow below instructions to repair NTLDR

1. In Windows XP Setup menu press "R" to repair
2. It will show you windows to login (1. Windows )
press 1 and provide administrator user id and password.
3. one in command prompt you have to copy paste NTLDR file from cdrom to c:\ type the following command
Your cd drive letter you need to figure out. Here I am taking it as d:\
or make sure you below command runs by changing drive letter if not able to determine CD drive letter

copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\

Restart the computer and it should work.

Else, again boot from CD ignore Repair option to go in recovery console, and hit enter. It will show you the agreement . Press F8 to accept . Next screen will show you option to repair to continue to fresh installation.
Here press "R" to repair. Not sit back it will take time to repair complete system.

Hope this helps

Ntldr is missing.... when i start my computer, it only shows NTLDR is missing press ctrl+Alt+Del to restart (this is on windows XP) please help... thanks

First check to see if you have a floppy disk in your floppy drive, if so remove it.
Second check if you have a CD disk in the CD/DVD drive, if so remove it.
If there are no disc in the drives, then the ntldr file is missing or corrupted and needs to be replaced. Please follow these instructions :-

When a PC system or notebook displays NTLDR is missing you can still recover with out re-installing windows. Follow the instructions on the link provided;
Scroll down to: Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.
The fix is a bit different for Win 2000 &Win XP.

Good luck!

Failed recovery

If you are using recovery CDs, with or without the NTLDR present in the HD should work. Perhaps what is needed is for you to set the laptop to boot from the CD. This could be done in the CMOS/BIOS configuration.

Alternately, if only the NTLDR is missing and everything else works OK, you can try removing the HD from the PC and connect it as a slave or an external USB mass storage device to a 2nd PC. It will be a simple case of copying the 2nd PC's NTLDR to the HD missing it.

In some instances, memory problem triggers this message as well. You can try cleaning the memory's little gold contacts/pins and/or try replacing them.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Problem with my COMPAQ Presario 900Z Notebook

I already answered this question. Your operating system cd is the cd you need to follow my instructions.

If you MUST get the information out NOW, you can bring the laptop to any computer repair center or buy a laptop drive adapter at your local Office Depot or Staples, and then plug it into your pc via USB.
