Question about Computers & Internet
Dear sir(s), My system configuration-intel motherboard 2.4 ghz bandwidth, 80 gb hard disk, samsung cd rom 52 x, Currently installed windows xp sp2 2006, Cd rom repaired after this event but quickly Up/down before than . Cd rom does not read CDs. Your's Beloved Human
The fasted and easiest way to eliminate Windows being the cause of a read problem is to remove the IDE cable from the drive and insert a CD into the drive once the system is powered on again. You should notice some change in the LED of the CD-ROM, at least it should blink for a few seconds. Usually if the LED goes out or turns red it would point towards a faulty drive - which you have already seem to establish.
One last shot to try before dumping the CD-ROM for good is to update the Firmware of the ROM drive - altough a long shot I have seen this work a number of times.
As Insomniac says CD-ROM's are very cheap to purchase these days
Insomniac I am remember when these ROM drives were very expensive - do you remember when the first Burners came out? As slow as a tractor and expensive as a Ferrari
