No operating system error in acer v5-471p

Depending on the BIOS used by the system, the error message that appears could also be "Missing operating system". There are both hardware and software issues that may be causing either of these error messages to appear which we will look at in turn.

Is your hard drive detected by the BIOS?

There is the possibility that the connection to the drive has been jarred loose. The documentation for your device available from the Acer website is next to useless and I cannot find a decent shot of the underside of the computer but there should be a means to access the hard drive of your computer via a covered opening without resorting to major disassembly. On most laptops it only requires a small Philips screwdriver to remove it. Just open up the cover and ensure the drive is firmly seated in the connector.
If the drive is securely connected, you may have a failed hard drive. In this case, the drive needs to be replaced, your OS reinstalled (if you have the correct media), and your data restored from backups. You have been making backups, right?

The software side

If you can see your hard drive in the BIOS, there is a problem with the boot record or the BCD (Boot Configuration Database). To fix this, you need to have a bootable repair disc created from your system earlier or a Windows installation disc for the version of Windows currently installed on the machine. The recovery discs provided by OEMs or created by their recovery disc creation software will not work for this. They only place a new copy of the factory installed image on the system and are not the same as the Windows installation DVD.
If you have the installation disc, boot from it.

Bad hard disk message back up and replace message

If the hard drive is failing it will need to be replaced and then you can use the recovery disc to re-install windows. If this computer is newer than 2005-6 then it most likely uses a 3.5" SATA drive.

When i turn on my laptop a warning notice comes on screen immediately saying smart failure predicted on hard disc 0:ST9160310AS-(PM). Warning immediately back up your data and replace your hard disc drive....

It means exactly what the message says.
The hard drive is going to fail in the near future. I recommend you back up your data before the hard drive fails completely.
When the hard drive fails, replace the hard drive, and use your Compaq recovery disk to install Windows and the device drivers plus your programs to get the laptop working again.

Failure to bootup

This message means that the computer could not find the MBR (master boot record) & the most likely cause is a hard disk failure. To prove this obtain an installation disk of an operationg system, say Windows XP, place the disk in the drive, and while its booting up, press F2. From the menu set the boot order to... 1. CD rom drive. Save and exit. The machine will now begin to install the operating system to your hard drive. If you get the same message again, you have a hard drive failure and it will have to be rep-laced.

you can try to use any WipeDisk software to do this, however most me installed on a diferent computer and or in a diferent hardrive to be able to delete all the content of the other. The UDF (Universal Data File) that onfortunally its not compatible with all devices, thats maybe the reason you canot delete the HD the CD drive need that piece of information on the HD that make imposible a total format of the disk.

The other option is to instal the old HD on a new PC go to computer management, then to disk management and formated from there.

DVDR3455H cannot bootup

I had the same problems with my DVDR3455H, and have finally have it working again, although I don't know for how long.

First, the DVD drawer not opening is a common problem, reportedly caused by a magnet not letting the spindle drop. The solution I've seen elsewhere is to always keep a blank DVD in the drawer; it usually has enough weight to help the spindle disengage from the magnet holding it up. By the way, there is an emergency release slide on the bottom of the unit if it still won't open.

More important is the hard drive. I was finally able to get the unit to work after connecting the hard drive to a PC using a USB attachment and running a full format (NTFS) on the drive using SwissKnife. That actually failed after eight hours, but I was then able to run a quick format through Windows Explorer. I then put the firmware on a CD-R using Nero Express, put it in the drawer and powered on the unit. After a week of repeated LOAD/COPY/BOOTs after running quick formats on the hard drive, this time I got the FLASH1 message. From there, it was just a matter of following the on-screen menus.

I'm thinking it may just be a bit of luck, but I think the full format was the key. Note that this is still the same hard drive, so it could still fail again. I also ran Check Disk looking for and fixing bad sectors, prior to my final full format.

Hope this helps.

Ps3 hard disc is corrupted

andysteve

If you are getting the corrupted drive message and the built in PS3 options are not fixing the drive then you will have to pull the drive and format it externally with a computer. The link below will help you do this.
