Are LED bulbs dimmable?

I am thinking of getting the Lightwell LED GU10 but am not sure what type of dimmer switch I need. I have read about trailing edge and leading edge dimmers but I don't know which one I need for the Lightwell lamp?

Testimonial: "There seems to be some confusion at the lighting shop as some LED bulbs can use either but most need one or the other - I was wandering if anyone else had any experience with LED bulbs?"

My led lights start to strobe when I turn on exterior light that is fed from the same line circuit. Solution?

There are two things coming into play here; the lamps and the dimmer(s).

First; LED and CFL type lamps that are to be used on a dimmer switch - must be identified for that use. Looks for the word dimmable on the packaging or bulb itself. These lamps are generally a little more expensive than their non-dimmable counterparts. If it does not indicate it is dimmable, then it isn't - and should not be installed on a circuit controlled by a dimmer switch.

Second; a dimmer switch that will be used to control LED and CFL bulbs (that are identified for use with a dimmer) must also be identified for use with dimmable LED and CFL bulbs. Again, these dimmer switches will be identified for this use and will cost more than those that work with standard filament type bulbs.

Lutron has dimmers for your circuit called a "C•L™ Dimmer" and supports Incandescent / Halogen, Dimmable Compact Fluorescent (CFL) and Dimmable Light Emitting Diodes (LED) type lamps. have a look here:
Lutron Maestro Dimmer and Switch Models

Also, be wary of the total load (wattage) of the lamps being controlled. If you have multiple dimmers in the same box, derating of the switch's wattage capacity (due to increased heat) will be required.

Can I use a dimmer switch with light bulbs whose packaging makes no mention of whether or not the bulb is "dimmable"? (be they incandescent, CFL or LED)

Most old dimmer switches do not work with energy saving/led bulbs, they will work fine with the old style filament bulbs, the newer dimmer switches will be compatible with energy saving bulbs and will indicate on the packaging!

Not really no. There are kits available but all to often there are laws and standards for vehicles in which the conversions do not abide by. Make sure you research what is legal before attempting such, usually is not worth it.

Are led bulbs dimmable

Dimmable led gu10 bulbs are an increasingly common sight in many homes and businesses. Touting numerous benefits, these bulbs are recommended for their lower energy use when compared to traditional incandescent bulbs, leading to a healthier environment and a healthier wallet.

CFLs, however, are not a one-size-fits-all product. In some cases, consumers have to be sure to buy the appropriate bulb for the use they have in mind. Fortunately, as CFLs have risen in popularity, bulbs designed for use with dimmer switches have been introduced to the market.

How to fit dimmer switch

The dimmer switch you select will depend on the type of bulbs you will be using. The 'original type ' of dimmer works with regular incandescent bulbs and halogen bulbs only. They cost around $15.00. Then there are dimmers for compact florescent (cfl) bulbs and LED lights that are dimmable, as well for regular light bulbs. These types of dimmers are more expensive, ranging in price form around $40.00 upwards.
Light Switches Dimmers

If you are replacing a single pole switch ( just one switch that operates lights) you'll need a single pole dimmer. If you are replacing a 3-way switch ( two switches that operate the same light) you'll need a 3-way dimmer.
Installing the dimmer is pretty straight forward. All dimmers come with installation instructions. Make sure you turn off the circuit breaker for the particular switch you are replacing.

If the legrand dimmer 400w - pro21 can function with led dimmable light "philips master led spot "

The answer is NO. You need a Trailing Edge dimmer to control LEDs.

The Phillips master LED spot manual says
:
Lighting controls: bulbs are dimmable 20-100% with ""select"" Trailing Edge RC devices
http://www.prismaecat.lighting.philips.com/FredhopperPDFWebServiceInter/docts/1d8ea75f-e889-424d-92dc-450fbeb85f6a/Smart_LED_Spot_da.pdf

The Legrand pro21 manual does not say anything about being a Trailing edge dimmer.
http://www.legrand.com.gr/gr/gr/liblocal/internet_greece/PDFS/NOTICES/IOBL/ROOSTATES/775637EN.pdf

Legrand diagrams show what appears to be incandescent bulbs, and say nothing about LEDs

LEDs cannot be dimmed as ordinary incandescent (tungsten) bulb.
