Slow internet connections happen for various reasons, even when you pay for a 'high speed connection'like DSL or cable.Because the internet (and World Wide Web) is built on hundreds of different technologies trying to talk to each other, there are many places where data can slow down before its reaches your computer screen. Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) might be at fault, certainly, but there are many other factors to look at before assigning blame. Some of these slow points are within your control, and can be quickly fixed with a little do-it-yourself effort:
- Refresh your internet connection
- Shutdown your router for minimum 10 minutes so that your back end IP can be change by service provider
- Remove your Temporary files from your system
- Try to use Reginout for constantly refreshing internet connections

there is a network icon in your lower right hand corner. For a wireless network, it will look like and computer with radio signals coming from it if it's connected and you have an ip address. if yours has a dot moving left-right underneath it or a red "x" through it, you don't have an ip address and are not really connected to the network.

SOURCE: Lan problem
You LAN is not connecting to your Internet Service Provider, hence the LAN has a red X and therefore cannot open a WEB page.
Check your LAN cable, make aure it is connected to both the LAN port on the modem and the LAN port on the computer.
The red X on the LAN should disappear when the network connection is re-established.
Also power off your modem for 1/2 min, and power it on again and restart your computer.
Let me know if you have further problems and any error messages.
