Screen will not turn on but fan does

Try hooking up an external monitor, if you can. Be sure to close your laptop so it will recognize the external monitor as the main.

( Dell xps m1530 laptop ) Monitor blank, powers up but screen won't come on.

It ISN'T the LCD screen. Since you diagnosed with an external VGA monitor, you now know the problem is the laptop.

(When you connect an external VGA monitor to a laptop, you are bypassing the Video Cable, and LCD screen. You are connected directly to the laptop )

The basic Windows files aren't being found. The boot files. This may mean a bad Harddrive.

Do you have the Restoration CD Disk? Laptop on insert it into the optical drive tray, close the tray.
When asked choose - Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)

If a checkdisk is done, you have bad sectors on the harddrive.
There IS a special procedure in replacing a harddrive.

No lcd display.

this can mean that the screen is broken, however here are some things to check.
turn computer off
Open all the way (the laptop screen) and close it, then try turning it back on. does it flicker?
if so the cableing may have come unseated.

do you have any other ports on the unit? some laptops have addtional ports such as HDMI, or VGA try plugging in an external monitor to one of these to see if you can get something up on the external screen.

As always make sure that the computer is actually turning on, do you hear beeps or a fan, or see a power on lighted button? Does your power supply have a light? Is it lit?

If you can see something on an external monitor then you either have a bad cable to the screen, a bad screen, or burnt out LCD bulbs. the last generally will get dim before burning out though.

My Acer Aspire 9300 isn't starting any more, all I see is a black screen and the 2 lights in front and te power button are on. You hear the dvd-writer spinning but the screen stays black. I allready tested...

You can try to connect it to an external monitor using the vga connector on the side of the laptop.

greed03_3.png If that works, try and hold down the function button and press the F8 key. That should switch between the two screens. If the Laptop screen still does not come on, It is probably bad.

Hope this helps!

I have an RCA DVD/VHS combo with TVG. The DVD

This is a work-around rather than a solution. We put an audio CD in the tray and after closing the tray the unit begins to play the music. After waiting a few seconds we open the tray and quickly substitute a DVD and it loads OK. We had also tried cleaning the player to no avail. The CD approach is a pain but it does allow us to play DVDs. Jim

Acer aspire one power button comes on but screen doesn't come on.

1/ Take a close look at the display in bright light; can you see anything there? (If so then the CCFL (or its power supply) needs replacing on the display
2/ hook up an external monitor and see if that works (or at least if the light stays green on the monitor)
3/ Any boot beep? any "Windows sound"?
4/ try removing the battery and (using only external power) see if it starts.
4/ remove the battery AND the external supply, hold the power switch in at least 30 seconds. Hoojk it up again, try it.

Lg rc797t dvd drawer will not close consistently

I have a Compaq Presario desktop running XP Media Center. The DVD tray would open on power up, and kept openinig when pushed shut.

I discovered that the tray would frequently remain closed when I held open the flap (the flap with the open button). A few days after discovering this, I got to add some more tracks to my MP3 player - I only mention this intermediate stage in case it is material in curing the problem, as the next thing that happened was a power failure whilst the PC was on. Since then, the CD/DVD drive has behaved perfectly. I did have a temporary problem with AVG INternet Security being unable to load the necessary DLLs to run correctly in MS Outlook 2003, even complaining of a corrupt installation, but this dissappeared after a proper restart and AVG update.

So,
Compaq users: try holding the flap open when you attempt to close the tray.
Generally: with PC running and all applications closed, switch the power off at the wall socket.

DVD HO1 error, and tray is jammed - how do i change the mode to External Port (iPod)?

It means that there's a misaligned disk inside. You need to

1. Unplug it and shake it side-to-side.
2. Then turn it on and press the open/close.
3. If it doesn't open, goto step 1.
4. When it opens, get the disks out, use disk exchange to try to get them all out.
5. Turn it off, unplug it, shake it again and make sure that there isn't another loose disk, if there is, then open it and get it out.

This is a known flaw in certain Panasonic DVD changers. Good luck
