I just put the equivalent of 2 six kilo turkeys in single portion containers in my freezer plus 7 single portions of homemade gravy. You can freeze it and use it no problem even a year or two later. On the net if you research freezers they recommend that it must be 0 Fahrenheit (or -17.77 C) and everything must be used before 3 months to avoid freezer burn... but do you believe everything you read on the internet? :) One or two years is fine

Is it safe to cook frozen leftover turkey into soup and then freeze the soup?

Yes. This will not, however, change when the turkey will expire. If proper food safety rules were followed and the turkey was stored properly and promptly before sitting at temperatures between 41-140 degrees F.

How long do i cook a 13 lb. turkey and at what oven temperature

What temperature do you cook a 13 pound turkey at?
After about 3 hours, insert an oven-safe thermometer deep into the thigh without touching the bone. Begin checking the turkey for doneness about 30 minutes before the recommended cook time. Your turkey is done when the temperature with a meat thermometer is 180° F in thigh and 165° F in middle or stuffing.

The label on my frozen turkey says it is good till March of 2016 does this mean even if its thawed it will still be good till that date?

Hi Ronnie:
- If it has been sitting unfrozen in your fridge for more than 2 days I'd personally not be eating it.
- Likewise, if you cook it, it should be eaten right away.
- Re-freezing uncooked is not considered safe food protocol.
- Freezing cooked in serving size portions and only thawing when you're going to heat and eat is usually safe.
Hope this helps.

How long can aturkey be keot frozen before cooking

Hi rollande laframboise

I have kept turkeys frozen for 4 years, and cooked them and they were as good as fresh turkey,as long as the turkey is properly vacuumed packed 3 to 4 yrs is not an unreasonable time to keep the turkey...if not properly vacuum packed, cook within 3 months or it may get "freezer burned"...dried out and tastes "funny" (not good).
