Computer should run on external power with a bad battery. Unfortunately, inorder for this to happen the battery can't be totally shorted or dead. As the battery wears it holds a smaller and smaller charge to a point where the laptop will only stay powered for a few minutes. What happens when you plug-in is the laptop will start up initially on battery and then realize that the power cord is plugged in and switch from battery to external power. Then it will operate normally. If the battery is shorted or dead there is no power for the computer to make this determination. So it stays off. do u have the power adapter plugged in, or are you using battery power? the first thing i would try is disconnecting the battery. just compleatly remove it and set it aside. then try starting it with the adapter plugged in. sometimes the batteries go bad and are corrupt. i had this happen to a compaq laptop a few years back. after i got rid of the battery it worked fine. if it works u can always buy a new battery.
go to radioshack and pick up a new plugh for your computer this happens OFTEN with averatecs they do not mix with jolts it most likley got an impact while being shipped and broke it free
With no disk you cannot restore your computer to a factory settings, at least that your computer has a second disk with the restore settings installed on it (usually this disk is called restored)
Your are in Hibernation mode. Hold the power button down for at least five seconds and then remove external power and then your battery. Re install your battery and attach external power and power back on. You should be alright after that.
This is a know issue with some laptop models running either Windows XP or Vista.
It could be your Power Supply or your CMOS Battery is dead. For Power Supply, you can test by try to connect your Power Cord without battery to see for any PowerPush. If it is still not on then you can check your CMOS Battery for any failure by test the good one from other similar laptop since you had two. I hope this help.
