You can use a window scraper (the holders that hold flat razer-blades) on the grill. Scrape what you can off of the oven bottom. If it was spotless it may stick better. If it was dirty it may make it easier to remove. If you have to put some penetrating fluid on it to soak under for an hour to a day. When you have gotten off all that you can wipe off all remaining penetrating fluid and turn on the self clean mode or 450 to 500 degrees for an hour to burn off the rest of the residue.

The plastic ties were left on the oven rack. One melted . How do I get the plastic off the bottom of a self cleaning oven?

Warm Method Both Good Housekeeping and the website Hunker describe this method for self-cleaning ovens. Hunker warns to NOT use the "cold method" which is reserved for other types of ovens. And the Good Housekeeping site says if the method proves unsatisfactory, that the floor or bottom plate of the oven might have to be replaced.

(That said, I suspect if you pull out oven racks and apply some ice to any plastic on it, the plastic might become brittle enough that tapping it with a spoon and prying at it with something wooden or finger nails might remove a lot of it. No scraping with the spoon!)

Here is the primary process for the oven.

Self-cleaning ovens require heat to remove the melted plastic. This method also works on heating elements with plastic on them. Step 1 Turn the oven on to the lowest heat setting. Only leave the oven on long enough to make the plastic soft and pliable.
Step 2 Scrape the melted plastic with a wooden utensil such as a spatula or spoon. The wood protects the surface inside the self-cleaning oven. When you get all off that you can, the self cleaning feature may burn off the rest. That WILL be smokey and exude an unpleasant smell while it does it. Open windows and keep pets out of the area (and yourself) while it goes through the clean cycle. Do NOT use a screw driver to try and remove the plastic.

Whirlpool accubake

Almost all electric stoves vent the oven through a hole in either the back right or rear burner. They can get very hot. I am surprised that your control panel is burned. It is only dangerous if you place a combustible over the burner. I have had some people do this and it has melted it. i haven'y heard of a fire from this but it could happen if it was hot enough.

I left my racks in my oven when i turned on the self clean cycle is there any way to bring back the shine?

Hello.

Sorry no their is not, the self clean reachs 700 plus degrees to burn off any spillage. What has happened is the chrome plating on racks is now burnt off and they can only be replaced.

Melted plastic lid in oven - how can I remove it

Any oven cleaner, like easy off will work on this but it may take more than one application. You can actually begin with your hair blow dryer and a putty knife by heating the plastic up enough to scrape most of it off. Then let the oven cleaner do the rest.

How to clean after an oven fire

Cheryl,
If you can't scrape the plastic off then heating it up to soften it is about your only choice short of putting it back in self clean with a fan in the nearest window blowing outside to evacuate the smoke. Depending how bad it is and how cold it is where you live, you might even try freezing if off. Get it as cold as possible and see if the cold makes it easier to chip off. As far as the element, I suggest turning the oven on and letting it smoke and burn clean. Shouldn't be a very long process since the element will get hot so fast the plastic will drip off right away.
Hope that helps... Brian

Whirlpool oven accubake system

I have a whirlpool accubake wall oven. Half-way through baking a pie ,unknown to me, the oven went to the self-clean mode , the door locked and the pie started to burn. I tried to turn the oven off but it would not cut off. I immediately ran to the house's main power and turned off the oven breaker. I waited for a short time to let the oven cool enough to open the door and get the burned pie out, then went back to turn my breaker back on and the oven (even though in the off mode) started heating again with the bottom unit turning red again. I had to then go back and pull the power. We tried this several times trying to push the off button but the oven will not go off until we throw the breaker. Help please!

Gas oven - - melted plastic inside

You can remove the bottom oven panel and look under it. All you have to do is remove the oven racks and locate the screws that hold the bottom panel in place. MOST ovens only have two of them. Once you have the crews removed, the panel slides back a bit, then lifts up. If there are any heavy deposits of melted plastic, remove it like you did before. Any residual material can be taken off with some fine emery paper. Wear a dust mask and vacuum all the dust out of the oven. DO NOT use this method on the oven wall as it may scatch it. This is only for anything that may have dripped below the oven pan. You may have an odor to the oven for a while, but as long as you have nothing else melted inside this should go away. Try running it on a cleaning cycle AFTER you've inspected the oven & cleaned out the remaining plastic. This will burn off anything left behind. I hope this helps you.
