Question about Amana AFD2535DES French Door Refrigerator
Can the door seals be replaced? Our Sears maintenance repair man told us there was nothing that could be done.
Unfortunately he may be right. however, There are a couple things you can check. Is it built-in, meaning... do you have cabinets, directly above? Impeding, being able to raise the front of the unit, so that it can "tilt" towards the rear? Do you follow me? Make sure the doors have jars, bottles, whatever... the weight helps.. Down on the floor, the fronts usually have adjustments, allowing this feature for the purpose in mind..
check too, there are no obstructions.. meaning the drawers aren't in any way coming in contact (where even slightly could intrude.) check foods or containers do pass beyond the edges of the shelves. If I recall, 5-7 lbs of outward pressure, is required by law, to enable the doors of any unit to open.
Check the gaskets on the hinge sides, they should be resting Flat, (the same way the top rests, against the metel surface when t he door is closed. )

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

There are three possibilities to this problem:
1. Door seal which should be magnetic is faulty.
2. Ice maker caddy (container) has not socketed properly into ice maker rear drive tang.
3. Door stay closed plastic hing pieces are damaged. These are tapered pieces that fit in hinge area that allow door weight to help close and hold door. Some are black in color and some are white. As far as I know they are interchangeable.

This problem was posted in the wrong section. My model didn't have it's own, so its in ABB1927DE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - perhaps you could create a section for it.
As it turns out, I looked more closely at the baskets inside. We had noticed that if the top basket was slid all the way forward when we closed the door that it would close better. So I looked to see if they or the slides were out of alignment. They seemed ok, but then I saw that the way the bottom basket was hanging didn't seem right - it was not quite nestled into it's retainer slot. I took the baskets out and turned the bottom one around. It fit perfectly into it's retainer slot. I then replaced the top one (it was already in correctly) and closed the door. It sealed correctly the first time. I tested it several times after that and it sealed tightly. Closing the top door did not make it unseal as it had done before.
