How to retrieve DTC:

The heater control panel has self-diagnosis function. To run the self-diagnosis function, do the following:
    1.Turn the blower fan OFF.
2.Press and hold the recirculation control switch and the rear window defogger switch down.
3.Turn the ignition switch ON (ll).
4.Release both switches. The recirculation indicator and the rear window defogger indicators come on. The recirculation indicator goes off 3 seconds later and the A/C indicator comes on, then the self-diagnosis will begin. About 10 seconds later, the self-diagnosis will finish and the A/C indicator goes off.

If any trouble is found, the recirculation indicator blinks the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) to indicate a faulty circuit or component.
If the system is ok, the recirculation indicator stays off.

1989 cougar heater or ac wont blow air what could be the problem

Its either the fan switch is bad,,or a fuse,,or the fan motor its self is bad,I would check fuse 1st,,2nd unplug fan motor run a hotwire to it and see if it turns,,if it does than you know its the switch for the fan. If it dont turn with separate hot wire ,,than its the fan go bad.

Hi,
The high limit switch is shutting down too soon (too low of a temperature) or the fan on switch is not turning on at a high enough temperature...are they in backwards??? Even though the switches work they are not turning on and off at the right temps... so they may be out of calibration....

Power supply pull switch is broken

Just about any hardware store will have a replacement switch for your fan. They are a standard piece of equipment. You don't mention if it is the switch that controls the light,or the one that controls the fan.The light switch is a simple on off switch. The fan switch could be a simple on off switch or could have variable speeds. It may have an off position, and may not.You can tell if it is variable speed or not by looking at it.It will have more than two leads. You can decide for your self if you want an off position or not.For instance if you want to turn the fan off,and on from a wall switch you may not want an off position on the fans pull chain.
