Does your drive make any sounds similar to these? If yes you have a mechanical problem and you should get a specialist to work on it if you need that data.
If not - try to remove the drive from the enclosure and connect it directly to the computer to recover your files.

Hi,

Hard disk mechanical noise like clacking or slapping and whirring or fast clicking sound is caused by the actuator arm slapping against the stops.

Whatever is causing the noise, it is indicative of impending problem. Your best course of of action would be to immediately back-up the data stored in the said drive while it is still readable. Of course eventually, you would need to replace the drive. If it is your main drive, you can also clone it to a new drive and your swap will be relatively easy.

Good luck and kind regards..

Why is there clicking noises coming from my asus laptop

Clicking noises are often systematic of a hard drive problem. If so, make sure you have a recent backup and you will need to run a disk utility type application, and will need to "boot" (start up) from another disk to do so. If you have the system disk for the computer (CD/DVD) you can select that as the "boot disk." With luck it is a minor problem. If not, swapping out the hard drive is not a big deal - but reinstalling everything can be time consuming.

In the worst case scenario that your drive is bad and your data is important and not backed up, the very best (perhaps only hope) is a program called Spin Rite https://www.grc.com/intro.htm

It has been around for years and saved me more than once, but it is not cheap. Last time I checked it was about $75 - years ago. I have no interest in the program and not trying to sell you anything, it is simply the very best, sometimes only hope to recover data from a bad HD.

Good luck!

It wont boot up and is making a clicking noise

It sounds like your hard drive crashed. When a hard drive fails many times you can hear it clicking. You will need a replacement drive.

I hope this helps,

sounds like your hard disk is toast. sorry. I have fought this battle many times.... in fact, i am dealing with the same problem today, they make the drives so cheaply now they fault too early. replace internal hard disk and reload your software. Plus i have three more on the bench with the same problem.

Inspiron 8500 laptop (80GB) intermittant boot failure

Hi

Thank you for your query

If there is a clicking noise inside then the hard drive is on the way out, the arm that reads the data is knocking against the plates, thus the noise

I would recommned that you back your data as soon as possible as the drive will eventually fail

Please can i ask that you leave feedback and vote if this has been useful

My Emac will not start up. It makes a high pitch noise a few times and then nothing happens. The screen will not turn on at all, it just remains black.

Put your system disk and power up holding down the c key on your keyboard. Once booted up go to the file menu and go to disk utility once open see if your hard drive is showing up. If it does run verify disk to to check whether your hard drive needs repaired if it does run the repair disk on it. That should get it up and running. However if your hard drive does not show up it is possible that the hard drive has failed. You would then need to replace the hard drive. Hope this helps.

I turned on the computer and on the screen 'disk error'

If you have the WIndows operating system disk. Put that in the drive, then boot up to the system setup. Do a Repair. When the dos comes up, do a chkdsk /r and that may get you enough time to boot up and back up your data. If the disk is clicking then the drive is probably bad. You can also try to place the drive in the freezer for a little while then try to boot up with it adn you can save some data.
