If you don't wish to use your facebook account for a period of time, you can deactivate it.
You can deactivate your facebook account by logging-in into your facebook (home page).
Then, go to account settings. Scroll down, where you'll see 'Deactivate Account' and press deactivate.
Note: when your account is deactivate, neither your friends nor strangers can access your facebook account/profile/pictures.
Did you make sure its the real Facebook site and not a phisher? A phisher is a fake site that is spelled close to the same as the origional and they ask you to type in information like credit card numbers and user names and passwords to get access to your accounts. Be careful, theres more and more every day.
With a bit of luck, you still have the same email address you signed up with. If that's the case, click on "I forgot my password." to have a new password emailed to you.
If not click on: "I can’t receive the email to reset my password, because I no longer have access to the email address associated with my account." ...click on the link in this bit: "If you’re still unable to log in or change your login email address, click here." ...and fill the form in. Hopefully Facebook Support will sort you out.
