If it's running well, I'd put in fresh plugs and then try to "tune" it.
With the engine running at low to mid RPM lean it out until the revs increase, and then drop. Back off on the adjust until the RPM peak, then another 1/3 turn. Run for 5 to 10 minutes. Let lool, check spark plug for desired colour.

4 wheeler backfire on start


incorrect air fuel mixture or a leak check for damage to the intake boot or airbox

i need to know more about how its running at low mid and high rpm to help you troubleshoot and you need to check for leaks especiely the intake boot if the intake boot is leaking that will need to be fixed before running the bike asumeing that is ok or fixed run the bike listen to it at idle standing is it surgeing with a good fast acceleration off the line with you siting on the quad ? or just realy rough ticking over with little guts off the line ?

midrange rideing how does it feel is there a bwarrr noise as u accelorate hard or does the engine roar up fast

is it reaching a good top end with good pulling power or poor pulling power

are the backfires constant or mainly whyle slowing down from high revs

if all are effected but there are no leaks then it may be float / fuel level that needs ajustment fuel level in ur float bowel effects all stages of rpm low mid and high

A rich problem gets worse as the engine heats up.



A lean problem gets better as the engine heats up.



hope this helps if u dont fix it your self first try and do them little rpm backfire tests for me itl tell me a lot

My 1981 Honda "CB750K" runs rough at low rpm and


1 and 2 run off different coils so its not electrical
do a compression test after checking all valve clearances
clean the carbs
check for any cracked hoses to the fuel tap,
and check for fuel tap operation, and its not running on prime, no fuel should flow in the run or reserve position until the engine is running.

Car blows white smoke at high rpm runs bad


hmmm...This kind of problem usually is due to cam shaft/valve timing issues. Sometimes, the cam shaft is not properly positioned and is not in sync with the distributor thus the exhaust valves open early releasing unburnt fuel. This will cause the engine to definitely run bad.
I suggest that you try to adjust your engine's timing first (cam and distributor) and then see the results. Also, remember that there is a limit to the rpm that an engine must do- about 6,000rpm is enough for high or max hp. Another information, a camshaft will only work best at a given rpm range so if you run your engine too low or too high, the engine will not work properly. In fact, there are special cam shafts for engines intended to run at high rpm while sacrificing lower rpm levels (the engine runs grumpy at low rpm levels).
Worst case, however, is that white smoke sometimes indicates that oil enters your combustion chamber, this will cost an expensive rebuild if such is the fact.

200 hp suzuki outboard runs rough in mid rpm range


You may need to syncronize the carbs. Run it and mark the throttle lever for your problem areas so you can duplicate the throttle position on dry land. When on land move the throttle lever to the problem area and then remove the engine cover. NOW look for loose connections and fittings especially carb linkage. At the worst you may have to have each carb adjusted with a flow meter if you do not find a worn part. A good boat shop will have such meters.

Engine stalls


my friend had one that did the same and he replaced throttle positioning sensor and it fixed it. but when you put a new battery in them they wont idle until you hold at steady low rpm for almost a minute because it has to relearn its position. so check your voltage meter and make sure it is around 13-14 volts when running and not on 12 while running because it could be too low of voltage for it and would be the same principle as disconnecting the battery because it takes 12 volts to keep computer on. hope I wasnt too confusing but I just want you to check your voltage for free before you buy electrical parts.
