it would appear that there are no drivers for Win 95
I think it's time you upgrade your computer

SOURCE: Have a Maxtor External Disk 3200, recently upgrade

You can click the program and 'run as xp' - this will give you some advantage of not having to deal with 7 drivers. Meanwhile - you can go to Maxtor's website and download the windows7 drivers for your external drive. One last thought - the drive may have chosen this time to not want to work for you too. There is a long term warranty so maybe you might look into an RMA if all else fails.

Can you install windows xp on a ibm 380ed laptop

Hi there,
You need to make sure your laptop meet the minimum hardware requirements for windows XP . (see below)
I believe your system has a Pentium MMX 166 MHZ processor which will not be able to run XP properly.
But that's not all, You also need to make sure IBM Lenovo provides drivers for all the hardware on your 380ED, which I don't believe it does.

Minimum hardware requirements

  • Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
  • At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
  • At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
  • CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
  • Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
  • Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution
  • Sound card
  • Speakers or headphones

I want to update my bios

Oh?

Kvpsy,

The information tells me;

1) Operating System: Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3 (SP/3)

2) Processor: (CPU) Intel Pentium 4, 3.06GHz,
(Or also stated as 3.066MegaHertz) {3.066MHz}
Uses an LGA775 processor socket.

Front Side Bus = 133MHz.
(Intel processors are 'Quad Pumped'. 133MHz is the Internal Clock. 533MHz is the External Clock.
4 x 133 = 532. Number is rounded up to 533)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_4_microprocessors#Prescott_.2890.C2.A0nm.29_2

Scroll down.
Prescott Core, 90nm architecture.
Pentium 4 HT model 524.
sSpec number on top of the Processor, (Heatsink removed), is either
SL8ZZ, or SL9CA

3) Motherboard manufacturer name, and model number:
Intel D101GGC
Version AAD357

3) Motherboard chipset:
ATI Radeon Xpress RC410 = Northbridge chip

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_ATI_chipsets#Comparison_of_Northbridges_2

IXP450/SB450 = Southbridge chip

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_ATI_chipsets#Comparison_of_Southbridges_2

4) GPU: (Graphics Processing Unit, or slang = graphics chipset)
Built into the motherboard chipset; ATI Radeon 200 series with 256MB's of graphics ram memory.
(? Really? I would think more like 64MB for Integrated Graphics.
Are you running a graphics card, in the PCI-Express slot on the motherboard? Got one in one of the PCI slots?)

5) Ram Memory:
2 Ram memory slots
DDR Sdram at 400MegaHertz. Also known as PC3200.

Maximum TOTAL amount is 2048MB. (2GB)
Amount of ram memory that installed now, 1024MegaByte. (Or also stated as 1GigaByte)
960MB is what shows.
(64MB's of ram memory is being borrowed)

32MB DRAM modules. Memory module/s ('Stick') use 5 Volts (DC)
60nanosecond to 70ns, Cas Latency of 3. (CL3)

6) Harddrive:
IDE
Western Digital WD1600AABS
150GB

7) Optical Drive:
IDE (EIDE really)
Manufacturer = LG Electronics
Model number = GH22NP21
DVD burner drive

8) C-Media CMI8738 audio (Sound) chipset

9) RTL 8139 Ethernet chipset

10) Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) manufacturer = Phoenix/Award.
Version = 6.00PG
Release date = 04/20/2006
BIOS String ID = GC11010N.86A.0311.2006.0420.1525

NOW, the message you received is -

SUGGESTION: Are you looking for a BIOS upgrade?

System BIOS is more than 2 years old. (WELL NO KIDDING!!)

Video BIOS is more than 2 years old. (Yeah? AND?)

A) AS SOON as you purchase a motherboard, the BIOS program is ALREADY out of date.

BIOS upgrades are made about 2 weeks, after the motherboard hits the market.

TWO WEEKS!!

What does this mean?

It means LEAVE IT ALONE.

If everything is working OK, DO NOT perform a BIOS upgrade.

Why?

Because for;
1) IF, the power goes out to your house/business, when you are downloading, the BIOS upgrade WILL NOT be completed.
What does that mean?
Take the motherboard out of your computer, and use it for a Frisbee.

2) IF, the BIOS upgrade is too new, and/or NOT compatible, AND if you do not save the old BIOS version, take the motherboard out of your computer, and use it for a Frisbee.

IS there a cure for ruining the BIOS program in your BIOS chipset, on your motherboard, and downloading, and installing the original one?

SURE!

Take it to a PRO, who will download the ORIGINAL BIOS, to a Floppy Disk, (Or disks), using an internal Floppy Disk drive, connected with a floppy disk ribbon cable, to your floppy drive connection on your motherboard, and put it on your motherboard.

MAYBE.

(Not shouting. Illustrating a point)

OR, if the BIOS chipset is removable, (It is soldered on the motherboard), perhaps another BIOS chipset is available, for a PRO to solder the good one back on the motherboard.

You HAVE been advised.

Athlon processor upgrade assistance:

Go to this link:

http://us.msi.com/?func=searchresult&keywords=ms-7025

Select the model motherboard you have and click on the CPU support link, it will show you a list of CPU's that are supported. You have a socket 939 board and AMD CPU's are now AM2, AM2+ and AM3 socket, which are 940 pin. It may be difficult to find a new CPU for your motherboard that is new since they have not been made in awhile.

• 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)

Large hard drive

Yes it will. Mostly it is the operating system that will allow the drive to be see at its full size. Suggest you use Win XP home with at least SP1 but Win XP Pro with SP2 is faster & very stable. Also suggest you set the drive up with the Mfg's disk utilites. Bootable floppy or bootable CD. If using plain XP home you can still install the OS & than download a free trial of Partition magic which will allow you to combine any smaller partitions to get you up to you 250GB size. (only if you have a problem though.
