Dear sir, i forget my BIOS Password model no lenova y500

If you cannot access the machine after if has been powered up, it is still possible to get past the BIOS password. The BIOS password is stored in CMOS memory that is maintained while the PC is powered off by a small battery, which is attached to the motherboard.

If you remove this battery, all CMOS information (including the BIOS password) will be lost. You will need to re-enter the correct CMOS setup information to use the machine. The machines owner or user will most likely be alarmed when it is discovered that the BIOS password has been deleted.

On some motherboards, the battery is soldered to the motherboard, making it difficult to remove.

If this is the case, you have another alternative. Somewhere on the motherboard you should find a jumper that will clear the BIOS password.

If you have the motherboard documentation, you will know where that jumper is. If not, the jumper may be labeled on the motherboard. If you are not fortunate enough for either of these to be the case, you may be able to guess which jumper is the correct jumper. This jumper is usually standing alone near the battery. If you cannot locate this jumper, you might short both of the points where the battery connects to the motherboard.

If all else fails, you may have to clear the BIOS password by resetting the RTC (Real Time Clock) IC (Integrated Circuit) on your motherboard.

How to reset the BIO Password..???

Hi, Reseting the BIOS password is quite easy, you just need to unscrew the bottom plate and look for the CMOS battery underneath. all you need to do is to remove the battery for a few minutes then plug it back in. you should be able to go to your BIOS setup screen.
Thank you using Fixya. Your recommendation is highly appreciated.

Remove the battery by following these steps:

toward you.
1. Remove the memory module compartment cover
2. Disconnect the RTC battery cable 1 from the system board.

Many RTC's require an external battery. If your RTC is one of this type, you can clear the BIOS password just by unsocketing the RTC and reseating it.

Replace rtc battery f15-av201

Your RTC battery is located secured to the motherboard by cable. It can only be reached by the disassembly of the laptop. Below is a link to the service manual for the F10.

Remove your battery from the motherboard for 30 sec. Jumper rtc jumper to short. Replace battery after 30 sec. then put RTC jumper back in correct location ( 1-2 or 2-3 ). leave like this another 10 sec then boot again with both Ram sticks. Make sure they are identical.

RTC battery

the rtc battery is on the motherboard.i doubt its the problem. If you have a voltmeter check your charger to make sure it is working. then make sure battery is charged with the voltmeter. try and run the system without the battery in, just using the ac adapter. if it works with the ac adapter and not the battery your battery probably needs to replaced as its been charged and discharged too many times. you might want to just reload the os. the link i gave gives disassembly to all toshiba laptops. the rtc battery on the motherboard looks like a watch battery. it should be good for 5 years or more. your laptop battery will go long before the rtc battery.

CMOS or RTC battery for this laptop : can it be replaced

Hi AshishB, Yes, Toshiba does refer to the CMOS battery in their literature as the real time clock battery. Your retailer is half right, the battery is on the motherboard but its attached via a connector and it can be replaced. Here are links to a couple of venders that sell the RTC battery for your laptop: - Http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Satellite,L15-S104,Laptop,Batteries-Backup-RTC.aspx - http://cgi.ebay.com/Toshiba-Laptop-motherboard-battery-cmos-L15-S104_W0QQitemZ170060189842QQihZ007QQcategoryZ3666QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate the posting.
