I have an Empisal celebrity 550, and I'm having problems with the top thread (needle) catching the bobbin thread. I have cleaned everywhere possible. Threaded and re-threaded the machine, cleaned the bobbin, still no fix!! Please help

SOURCE: bobbin thread won't catch with needle thread

check that the needle is in the right way round i.e. with cut out on the needle facing into the machine. if this is fine then check that as the needle comes back up from the lowest point that it goes to, that the point on the bobbin case passes just above the hole in the needle, i.e. in the middle of the cut out.(if not it needs re timing) if threaded a small loop should appear at this point for the bottom bobbin to catch if not slacken the top thread and try again.

SOURCE: Bottom thread will not catch

Unplug the machine and remove the needle plate so that the bobbin case if fully exposed. Lift out the bobbin case and the cup that it sets in will be visible. Locate the "hook" on this cup. It is a finger with a sharp point at the upper edge of the cup. The hook is what grabs the thread from the needle while sewing.

  • Thread the needle.
  • Turn the handwheel by hand.
  • Watch the hook as it approaches the needle from right to left.
If the hook passes by the needle AFTER the eye of the needle is above it, you timing has slipped and the machine must be taken in for repair.
If the hook catches the thread from the needle, put everything back together and try threading again.

I suspect you are correctly threading the machine but the timing of the needle and bobbin hook is off. When the threaded needle goes into the bobbin area, a pointed hook grabs the thread and loops it with the bobbin thread. Something is catching when the needle starts to come up that is not allowing the bobbin thread to be pulled back through the needle plate opening by the upper thread. With machine threaded and bobbin in place, have the bobbin area open if possible and watch the thread interaction when the needle goes down. To set the hook/needle timing, normally covers have to be removed. Suggest taking it to an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for service. Good luck.

SOURCE: The bobbin thread is not

try a new needle
make sure the bobbin is not warped
make sure the bobbin case area is free of lint or loose thread
make sure you hold the upper thread tail while it's going down to pick up the bobbin thread
make sure there is a 2 to 4 in tail for the upper thread to grab

My bobbin case for my celebrity empisal 550 get the cotton all tangles around it and falls out of its casing

Make sure the thread is exiting the bobbin correctly. The part that the bobbin rests in is called the "race" and it has a small slot. Be sure the thread is unwinding in the right direction. Take the bobbin out turn it over and replace it. The thread will "exit" differently. There is an adjustment on the race that controls tension of bobbin thread. Try them all.

Janome 3000 bobbin thread will not catch. It just quit while I was sewing. I've cleaned the bobbin case and anything else I could but when I put the needle down the thread does not circle the b

try changing the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure to use every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is not over wound
make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case
make sure the bobbin is not warped or damaged
if you've done all these things then it's also possible that the machine
is out of time & needs to be checked at a repair shop

My needle thread keeps breaking. I've tried different thread (top and bobbin), a new needle, and I opened up the bottom plate to clean out lint. I have also tried adjusting the thread tension.

Are you sure you have got the top thread threaded correctly including the take up lever? Start at the thread spool and follow the thread all the way through the thread path checking that it is not snagging on anything enroute and that the thread is correctly through the tension device. Also tension dial should be on 4-5, if its higher this could be breaking the thread. YOu should not need to adjust top thread tension more than a half increment at any time.

Other possibility is that the bobbin holder under the needle plate has moved out of alignment and then the top thread is catching there as it goes around the hook.

If you check your manual it should give you instructions on removing the needle plate (2 screws need to come out), then you can lift the bobbin case out towards you, clean underneath with your little brush, then reinsert it. There are two little red marks on the right side of the bobbin case and a stopper, these need to be lined up. Then put in bobbin and rethread into tension spring, replace needle plate, bobbin cover, and test stitch.

Hopefully one of the above is causing the thread to break.

I have a Brother PE 770. All was well, fairly new machine and whipped stitches out correctly. All of a sudden it is shredding the top thread and it almost seems the bobbin is not catching. Would this be...

here are some suggestions to try
it's may be the needle, it could be bent or blunt

it is possible that it could be the timing,,,, but first try changing the needle & try rethreading the
machine the top thread & bobbin also

make sure the bobbin is in the bobbin case correctly & that the bobbin case is correctly inserted into the machine correctly

check to see if there are any burrs on the needle plate
clean out from under the needle plate
also make sure the bobbin area is clean from lint or loose threads
