Have you changed the water pump - if not, that could be it. Typically cold lower hoses imply water pump impeller not turning.
That would definitely be my next move.
Hope this helps and thanks for using Fixya!!

Overheating but ive already replaced the thermostat water pump but still rung hot no water flow circulating need answers .etc

When its cold remove the rad cap, start it up, put your heater blower on full and full heat on, then when the engine gets hot look inside the rad you should see the water flowing. If its not flowing feel the top of the thermostat housing/rad hose it should be nice and hot, it its not your stat is not opening. Are you sure you got the correct temp stat for this car? Was it properly installed and is the system full with no air in it? You can also get a melt stick from your local Napa, making sure its the right temp stick for your car, put it on the stat housing and see if it melts. If it does and you still have no flow either its stuck closed, or its the wrong temp stat.

Vw polo overheats

a cold hose indicates an air lock in the cooling system, if this is the case have it bled to remove the air lock. it could also be combustion gases leaking into your cooling system indicating a possible head gasket failure, your anti freeze can be tested for traces of combustion gases.

I have a 2002 1.4 vw polo overheating. The temp gauge just keeps going up. I have no hot air coming through the vents and the bottom radiator hose stays cold but all other hoses get hot. The car was fine...

It's not likely the thermostat as they tend to stay open when they go bad; but you have no circulation when the lower hose remains cool. Most likely it's too low on coolant for circulation or the water pump is failing.

Overheating Polo

this sounds like a thermostat fault, but also could be the sensor switch to the radiator but is more likely the thermostat, it should be located at the front top of engine, follow the top water hose to the engine and you will find the thermostat housing, also just a heads up, these had a problem when first made, according to the known fixes and problems with VW's the hoses corroded inside and started loosing water, this could be wise to get the system presure checked to...hope this helps

My BMW 318i has had a new expansion tank fitted after overheating and splitting. After bleeding the cooling system it seems as though the bottom hose is not getting hot any suggestions would be welcome

NORMALY THE HOT FLOW ENTERS THE TOP HOSE AND COOLER WATER LEAVE THE BOTTOM HOSE BACK TO THE BLOCK, SO IF THE TOP HOSE GETS WARM THEN THE RAD IS BLOCKED , IF NIETHER GETS WARM/HOT THEN THERMOSTAT NOT WORKING, OR YOU HAVE BLOCKAGE ELSE WHERE, SO REMOVE BOTH HOSES FLUSH RAD WITH HOSE PIPE, (WHEN ENGINE IS COLD) SEE IF WATER FLOWS OUT AT SAME SPEED AS U R FILLING IT, IF NOT ITS BLOCKED, 2ND REMOVE THERMOSTAT AND FLUSH ENGINE OUT, U CAN BUY RAD FLUSH/CLEANER AND TRY THAT,

Remove and raise upper hose at thermostat end and remove lower rad hose.
Fill rad with a hose and watch for flow from bottom rad hose and/ or bottom rad hose connecton.......water should fall though rad easily.
Honda rads are cheap.....any restriction....replace rad.

Remove thermostat....fill thermostat housing with hose and watch for water flow at bottom rad hose.
Flush good.

Remove heater hoses.......flush back and forth until a good flow is present "With heater control set to hot" if no or poor flow....replace heater core.

Stop leak can plug everything.

Also.......not likely causing over heating....but ....at your mileage,if you do not know if the timing belt has been changed.....CHANGE IT NOW!
Water pump is optional at this mileage.
