Is there a knocking when you use the faucet or the pressure slams when you turn it off? that's water hammer. the air pockets that are supposed to be in the plumbing are depleted. most new plumbing have a length of pipe larger than the rest of the plumbing to hold air to avoid it. easiest way to fix this: turn off the water main. open up every faucet and flush every toilet until no more water flows. shut everything off again. slowly turn on the water main and the knocking and water hammer should disappear.

Need to attach ground wire

A good ground is typically a cold water pipe. The cold water pipe is required to be grounded to the electrical service in nearly all buildings. Since cold water pipes are often in contact with hot water pipes in steel sinks, water heaters and furnaces, etc.; a hot water pipe - whether for heat or domestic use will also work. The same holds true for gas piping. Electric appliances fueled with gas have their pipes connected to ground via the electrical cord and electrical service. You could also obtain a "3 wire" cord cap from you hardware store, and connect an wire to the ground terminal of the cord cap, and plug it directly into a grounded electrical outlet to obtain a good ground. If you do not ground the wires, the noise will likely be worse than before at the wire acts like an antenna for other noise sources. You may also have luck connecting to the ground terminal on many of the older amplifiers - as many turntables required ground, too - and this was the method used.

Good luck!

Knocking noise when turning cold water off or toilet flushing

It's called water hammer, either pipe was never secured correctly or
pipe has come unsecured. You can try to find where your cold water pipe is not secured correctly (every 4 feet or every other floor joist) or install water hammer arrester in cold water line.

Where is the cold water valve on amana washer

the cold water valve is at the end of the hose at the back of the machine
if the cold water pipes run outside to the garage , it is a fair bet that the water in the pipes has frozen
easy to check --take the cold water hose of the tap and see if it runs
if it runs replace the solenoid for the cold water valve

Hot water pipe clinging when closing valve

This could be a lot of possible fixes. Try putting a piece of tube insulation around the pipe at where it is hitting on a another pipe or something. This would at least stop the noise. That is the nature of the beast with the noise. Hot water responds that way depending on what is going on in the air .

Why does my bathroom hot water pipe make several thumping noises and then quit when I turn on the faucet in cold weather but makes no noise in hot weather

It is called expansion and contraction...
When you turn the water on and off the pipe will move just a bit....
When the pipe is warmer it is a bit longer and it does not hit whatever is causing the thumping...
When the pipe is colder it shrinks just enough to hit....
This causes the thumping when cold...
It is not hurting anything... just annoying...

It will not fill with cold water. Could it be due to the cold weather - the cold water pipe frozen. Kitchen is very cold (pipe is next to an east facing wall). Same pipe also fills the dishwasher,...

If youve taken the fill hose off and checked for running water out of tap and its not coming through, your machine is ok, you have a water fault.the humming is the water valve working.

Hot valve and cold valve make noise when on separately but when on together it is quiet. what would cause the noise

If new I would say just a little air in the pipes, but more then likely its not getting enough pressure. Make sure at a sink where tub is located that you have sufficient water. Also verify others are not using massive water to cause tub supply to be low and cause pipe noise. The water is trying to get from pipe to tub connection to where the water comes out. I have seen older homes not have suffecient piping (those outter pipes that do several circles to insure quiet pipes in 2 story homes.
