Why would push and pedal vehicle toys be better than ones with electric motors or gas engines?

Push and pedal toys are much more environmentally friendly than those with engines and motors. They develop the child's imagination and motor skills and at the same time avoid polluting the environment or wasting energy. They also last much longer, especially the old fashioned metal versions.

Are metal pedal cars a good idea for a present for a 4 year old?

Yes. Metal pedal toys went out of style in the '70s with the introduction of plastic toys in the market. But pedal toys in general are still very used and appreciated in families with young kids, and while the plasti ones are lighter and cheaper, the metal ones provide a great traditional enjoyiment for many years to come, as the metal is much more resistant and durable than plastic, and at the same time can be passed from generation to generation. The metal also provides the possibility to customize the car and therefore make the present even more personal and appreciated.

Are push pedal cars for kids dangerous?

All toys such as cars and trucks should be used under supervision. Personally i think that classic push pedal cars are much less dangerous than motorized toys as they don't go as fast and you can't get yourself caught up in any motorized parts.
But particular care should be take on hills and around roads etc
