You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display or appear black.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Did you connect an external monitor to the laptop, what was the results?

Reseat the RAM module/s, it may need electrical contact to be re-established. If the doesn't work (the RAM might be faulty) test the RAM in another laptop or get your friendly computer shop to test them.

Does the hard disk LED light up when you boot the laptop?

Chech the BIOS to see if it detects the hard disk.

    Reseat the hard drive too.

If the BIOS doesn't detect the hard drive it may be faulty, test it by connecting it to a USB hard drive adapter and insert it into a working laptop's USB port, if it detects the drive as an external hard drive and can open the folders and list the files then it's OK.

If not the hard drive is faulty and needs to be replaced and Windows installed etc.

    Let me know the results.

The Wireless LAN switch on your laptop is located to the right of the SD card slot and power indicator lights on the front of the laptop. If this does not work, the entire Users Manual can be accessed by going to:

VGN-NR220E won't boot up

Bad memory can cause a system to hang as you describe.
If it is accessible, remove the memory cards, swab them with cotton swabs and alcohol and try it again.
Don't put the cards back in while still damp if you use rubbing alcohol.
