RESET . Open the cover on the back of 1640 and see to small board . There is a m/s 93C66 near a big chip . Turn OFF the printer , connect pin 3 and 4 of 93C66 and turn printer ON . Hold on connected pin 3 and 4 of 93C66 until lamps on the front panel light , when lamps end light disconnect pin 3 and 4 of 93C66 . Now the page counter is 0 , and starting cartrige will work . May be different time between lamps on front panel OFF and disconnect pin 3 and 4 , it is about 0,5 sec , but may be larger or smaller , may be you will need to do this sequense once more . This method works if page counter before RESET not more than 2000 pages .

No need to drill holes. If you turn the cartridge with the drum facing away from you, on the left hand side, you should see a small block elliptical cover with a couple of divider on it. That is the cover for filling the cartridge. The problem is there is no available reset chip yet for clp-315.

Download the firmware from here
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=in&CttFileID=2238869&CDCttType=FM&ModelType=N&ModelName=ML-1640&VPath=FM/200904/20090416100856890/ML-1640_V1.01.00.83.exe
run the software and this will reset the page count to 0. Samsung printers generally do not support a refilled cartridge and thus the red light. But resetting the page count to 0 makes the printer detect the cartridge as an intoductory one.

SOURCE: refilled toner ctg. Getting 'toner empty stop'
When it says "Empty Toner - Stop" Click the right arrow at the circle and it should say "Empty Toner - Continue" hit ok and you should be good. You will have to do this each time that you turn the printer on or pull a cartridge out.
