Carburater leaks fuel

Reseal carb / gaskets if its from the carb body ,

Sticky float, tap the float bowl to see if it stops and frees up
Check carb bowl for dirt in float valve or wear on float valve or seat or seat o ring, make sure the float is still floating (remove and try to float in petrol) if leaking from an over flow pipe or out let

We have a craftman snowblower...wont start ..I pull the cord and get nothing...changed sparkplug but still nothing .gas leaking from carbanator ...wont turn over/...what should I check?

A big problem you have is the gas leaking from the carb. This means your float that allows the right amount of gas in the bowl for everything to run right is either stuck or the float itself is leaking (heavier than it should) and therefore lets too much gas in the bowl. The float height is critical for proper running.
Remove the bowl. Look to see if nothing sticking like the inlet needle or float itself. Turn carb upside down to the float should be parallel to carb body.(different manufacturers specify different heights but adjusting the float parallel to carb body will run good.) Remove pin from float hinge to remove float. Check to see if the float is leaking, even just a small amount of gas in float makes it heavier and therefore lets in too much fuel. It can be difficult to see if it is leaking, shake back and forth to try to find out. If the float inlet needle or float itself is not sticking I suggest you get a new float. Adjust it to be level with carb body by bending the tang that sits on inlet needle. It should be pretty well level just as is.
I suggest you try that and see what happens. But as long as you have carb apart clean it with carb cleaner or paint thinners and blow air in all ports (low pressure air). How old is the gas in the tank? If over one year old use fresh gas. Try that and see what happens. If still problems I am willing to answer any of your questions. I hope this helps a little bit. Regards and good luck.

Gas leaking thru carb on my 1978 Yamaha SX Special. Bike will start but gas leaks as soon as it is put in the tank. Where do I start looking for the leak.

If the carb is leaking fuel and the leak is not at the hose fitting,
  • Either the float needle is missing
  • The float is not free on the hinge pin
  • The needle is being held open by trash
  • The float level is set wrong
  • The float is bad and is filled with fuel
The float should be light as a feather and with only air inside it. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

Carbuator leaks gas on motorcycle

Two possibilities; the float bowl gasket is leaking, or the carburetor is overflowing (gasoline is coming out of the overflow tube).
If coming from the float bowl gasket, simply remove the float bowl and replace the gasket.
If it is overflowing remove the float bowl, pull out the float hinge pin, remove float and float valve. Clean the valve and inspect the valve for excess wear (a noticeable groove worn into the tapered seat) and replace if needed. While you have the float out, shake it and listen for any gasoline that may have leaked inside it. If there's liquid inside the float, toss it and buy a new one (or else your carb will overflow with gasoline constantly). Before you put the float bowl back on be sure to clean it out with soapy water and an old tooth brush.
That should take care of any leaks or overflowing.

Float hieght for 1984 IT 490

not sure of the exact height, but if you hold the carb level with fuel hose attached and pushing float up with finger, turn on petcok and slowly lower the float until it is just above horizontal. at this point, gas should start to flow out of the needle & seat.

if float turns off gas too soon, then engine will starve.

if float doesn't turn off gas, then it will flow out of the carb overflow tube.

Leaking?

I had this problem, our kenmore dw would leak maybe 1 out of 5 runs. found that the overfill float was so full of crud and calcium that it was weighing it down, and alowing too much water in - thus leaking out the top of the shaft of the float.
You must unlatch the float below the dw, very difficult, try a mirror, you also must remove the micro switch attached to the bottom of the float first. This fixed the problem!
