SOURCE: How do I graph an equation such as y= 5x + 2?

Hello,

Turn calculator ON. If you do not see several icons press [MENu].

Use arrow to select the [GRAPH] application and press [EXE].

In the entry screen, the line with Y1= is highlighted. If it is not, use arrow to highlight it.

Press the right arrow, the highlighting disappears leaving you with Y1= and the blinking cursor.

At the position of the cursor enter 5 [X, theta,T] key under the [ALPHA]. On the screen appears 5X, complete you equation +2.

Press [EXE] to store function.

If you want to draw other functions, it is time to do so on that screen.

When done press [F6:Draw}.

If the screen does not show a lot of the function, you can use the arrow keys to pan the graph.

You can also press [SHIFT][V-Window] to set the window limits.

Hope it helps.

- If you see no icons, press [MENU]
- Use arrow to move focus on GRAPH and press [EXE]
- By default, the graph type is Y=
- Enter your equation on line Y1=, use the [X,theta,T] key to enter the X-variable
- Press [EXE] when finished entering a function.
- Enter other functions if you want.
- When done, press [F6:Draw].
- If you do not see a big portion of the curve you can press [SHIFT] [F2:Zoom] and select [F5:Auto]

To enter powers of trigonometric functions you must enclose the functions in parentheses and then apply the exponent to the whole. For example X1t =(sin T)^3 , Y1t=(cos T)^3 will give you a shape similar to a rhombus with concave sides. The symbol ^syands for the operation of raising to a power. The key is the one with the caret symbol ^ , and it is wedged between the xsqure and EXIT keys (third row of keys).

As regards the cotangent, use the equivalent definition cot(X)=1/tan(X).

Your function is not correctly defined. If graph is function y=f(x), variable must be x; if graph is polar, variable must be theta, and if graph is parametric, variable must be t. This does not cover all possible cases. **Check the graph type and the definition of the function.**

The function you give as example in the additional information to your duplicate post is too simple to generate an Argument error. Maybe a syntax error but not an argument error.

Check what you enter on the line that defines the function.**Do not confuse the minus sign - (for subtraction) and the change sign (negation sign) marked (-).**

You can also reset your calculator by pressing the button on the back.

Turn calculator ON

If you see no icons, press Menu

Press 3 (Graph) draw your function. (more on that later).

If the first line of the display show Graph Func : Y= you should be able to draw your function.

If it says anything else, press F3 TYPE to select the graph type and select functional by pressing F1 key Y=.

After the graph type is set to Y=, type the second member of your function y= f(x) on the first line. Make sure the = sign after Y1= remains highlighted after you move cursor. Otherwise select the function by pressing F1:SEL. Press F6 Draw.

Be careful with trigonometric functions. If angle unit is radian, set window Zoom to standard. If angle unit is degree, you must open the Window utility and set Xmin=-190, Xmax = 190 to see at least a period.

When drawing function graphs of type Y1=, the name of the independent variable should be X

For polar graphs r=.., the independent variable is theta, while for parametric graphs it is T

To enter the default independent variable, press the key marked [X,Theta, T] . It will type in the correct name.

The argument error must have something to do with the parametric functions you are drawing. I do not think anybody would know where to look unless you give us the functions.

As to the range of the T-variable, you can set it by pressing [SHIFT][F3] to open the (V-Window) configuration screen. It starts showing Xmin, Xmax. etc. To get to the T range, use down arrow (about 7 times).

Hi Akram Sitawi, I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? What type of graph are you using? Function, parametric, polar, sequential? What function are you trying to graph? What independent variable are you using X, T, Theta, n? How are you entering your expressions?
